Supposing you had air in your coolant system, what would the side effects be?? The reason I ask is Ive just put a new radiator on and my mind wont rest. I've bled it from all 3 bleed valves, it warms up as normal. All pipes get hot. Fan comes in at 105. Anything else I should look out for? many thanks [/paranoid]

sudden fluctuation in temp would indicate that there was an air lock some where..or...one day teh water level in the header tank will just drop.... keep an eye on you header tank for a few weeks, it should bleed by its self. keep a 1L bottle of water behind the seat just incase it decides to do it an a really bad time. chinky chinky

Thanks very much to both of you. Would the air come out at the header tank now? So there is no need to bleed the system from the bleed valves anymore?

On my 540i I replaced a dual water valve that has coolant running through and is part of the dual climate thing. After some running around, I got "CHECK COOLANT" on the dash and added some. This repeated with ever smallerr quantities till, after 500 miles or so, it was happy. This is my long winded way of saying: Keep checking and topping up till it wants no more and you're done.

Should do - eventually. The expansion tank is the highest point in the cooling system and any air still in the system should work it's way back there.

Sorry to hijack, I've just got my car back from the garage and the coolent resovoiur tank was kinda empty (there was still enough in the system tho), so I brought a litre of coolent from vauxhall and poured that in to the correct level. Just wondered, should i of mixed that with water or is it fine neat?? Thanks Add
