Hi there i have lurked on here for a while so thought i would join up. Few people might recognise my username off pistonheads where i post quite a bit. Just got rid of my TVR as it needed some serious repairs. Looking to spend about 12k on a VX (or possible a 111S) i had my heart set on a Turbo but given that i am going to be financing about 50% of the car, im not so sure a N/A wont meet my needs. A very tough choice, plan to keep the car at least 2 years so i dont want to get the wrong one. Really want a yellow (the darker shade) one too which makes it difficult. Cheers!

What TVR did you have...i would suggest a N/A would feel a little gutless after a TVR....the turbo has lots of low down torque thumbsup and for 12K you could get a reasonable one at the moment.

the 111s is a very fun car and has excellent handling, feels so balanced, but when you put your foot down nothing really happens.. coming from a tvr you will be very dissapointed IMO..

It was only a S3 2.9 V6 170bhp so similar performance to VX n/a but as said had oodles or torque. Im thinking VXT and have the Courtney Stage 1.5 upgrade to about 235bhp - those things must be real weapons.

Hey Tom, I can't help with the na (driven one but not owned one) but I would expect the na to be as quick if not quicker than your TVR. I had one of the first S1's, the one with twin bonnet releases and the 2.8 engine. I then moved on to a Corvette C5. The handling was similiar but less rigid, the power was a serious step up. I used both as a second car. I would expect to need more revs for some go on the na compared to the Trevor. I then sold the Corvette to get a VXT as a daily driver and it wasn't a huge step down in performance. I think I could happily keep up with the Vette on most roads. Lots less top end then the Vette and a little less to begin with. Although the quoted 0-60's of both are 4.6 (Vette) and 4.7(VXT), I think the VXT's quoted figure is a little bit more ambitious. Despite the little difference in performance the fuel economy is staggering. The TVR averaged 20mpg and the Vette 25. On a commute to work taking it easy the VXT will give me 35 and not drop as low as the other two when using the performance. A VXT if you can stretch to it will have a few more niggles sorted. A bit less of a car on the track but a bit more suited to road driving IMO, flame suit on! Both will be more reliable and less hassle than the TVR. You will pay more for the badge of a Lotus and expect insurance to be steeper. It will also be slower than a similarly priced VX. I honestly can't see me getting rid of the VX, ive just renewed it for the first time. If you can live without heat and a rigid drive then everything else is great. You soon master getting in and out of it. It is even harder than the TVR. The centre column on the TVR was handy to push yourself up! Always fun times choosing the next car, enjoy. Ian

The more i think about it the more im thinking VXT, just spoken to my finance people and the extra money shouldnt be a problem. Whats that about lack of heat? Did you just mean with the roof off or is the heater really crap?!

Yeah, its really crap. With the TVR you had a choice of hot or very hot, on mine anyway! On the VX the blower isn't so great and it doesn't kick out much hot air. I have modded mine slightly, guides on this site. Its tolerable on mine now. But as far as cars go they are pretty rubbish!

Either car has its own benifits and its all down to what you want out of it. Personally i would drive both cars as they are a bit different and see what suits you
