Have been looking for a vx220 for a while now and want to get into the driving seat asap. I currently have a mini cooper with the john cooper works kit on it, 57k, carbon dash and mirrors, jcw mats, spotlights, dvd, bluetooth, 1/2 leather sports seats...the list goes on. (She has been in the modern mini mag and won the mini of the month thing and has got to be one of the best looked after cars in the uk). I do not need to sell her to buy a vx220, i am a cash buyer but i wouldnt mind p/x. Basically, i figured i could be waiting a long time for a vx220 as there were only 1000 ever made, and by the sounds of things alot have been written off. So i am a cash buyer and i know that you can get a non cat d for less than 6 grand as i have seen them go for that. Also glasses guide rekons that you should be able to buy for less than 5!!! ...credit crunch!!! As it stands my budget is £6000 cash but could go higher for the right car (although would prefur a bargain). ps. dont mind cat d as long as it is reflected in the price!!!

says 1000 sold in uk.... so take it alot more were sold abroad then?

Although that guide does look as though it was written a while ago, going on prices.

It also says 'OXO' on the side of our local buses, but I doubt the driver would sell you a packet...

Glasses car guide is complete ballacks when it comes to the VX - nothing to do with the credit crunch it's always been that way......

The VX220 is not a Vectra or Mondeo with an unlimited choice in every garage in every town - searching out the 'right' car can invlove lot of time and effort - even more so given your limited budjet..

One of the reasons few VX's ever show up on garage forcourts is that the average 'Swiss Tony' 2nd hand car dealer has never seen a VX so just quotes you a PX price from the above 'Bible' yet private sales can achieve 20-30% more - hence why most owners sell via here/Pistonheads etc..

I would think the only real chance you'll get of getting a VX under £5K would be a damage repairable - NOT a damage repaired.

Living in dreamland im afraid if you are expecting to get a vx for under 6k, credit crunch or not. You may have seen one go for that but will most likely be a one off.... Prices will start to rise a bit aswell by april i reckon. Parkers prices etc have always been stupidly low, thats the book price anyway not the market value. This time last year when i was looking for a vx, the market value of a 2001 vx was 9-9.5k whilst parkers had it as 6k or something! Budget 8k and get a well maintained example. (A lot more important than the milage!) IMO

there have been loads sell for less than 6grand; cat d and non cat d! But like I said I could spend more for the right car. That turbo cat d just went for 6, I just want a na that is in reasonable condition. That blue one on pistonheads was selling to me for 5500, just some other lucky b@stard beat me to it by a day!... Gutted

Might buy a few myself and sell them on in the spring for a big profit.

Yeah that was writtin in 2002 or 3 so they haddent even started selling the turbos yet

I bought a CAT D for 5400 squid about 6 months ago. It was from a guy on the forum so i could check it was all ok. All it had were a couple of ridiculously minor car park dings on it. The prices are coming down tho, dunno if thats just cos its winter or the credit crunch. As Garry.L says they arent nearly as common as Vectras and the like and you might have to wait until a good one comes up. I did and am very chuffed with the result...

so you've got a not particulary quick mini and you want the not so quick vx and you'll be insuring both. if you want speed and a bit of luxury and like the mini buy the cooper s (wouldnt advise this as it's a pile of sh*t and only does 21mpg with weak engines trust me been there done that) or sell the mini and buy a turbo

First one is Cat D AND has not reached it's reserve......

Second one I would wager is also on the register given the poor advert with little info or history on the car....

Autotrader doesn't list one VX below £6K, neither does Pistonheads.

So given you said there are "Loads" of non registered VX's for sub £6K - one VX with a dodgy advert is hardly "Loads" realy is it?....
