Hey, so i had a conversation with a chap at Thorney whilst at the AutoSport Int Show yesterday, and wanted to know his opinion... now i want yours :P

Diffusers ... seen 6 fin and 4 fin advertised...

now i know that they are mainly for show.. (thats what Thorney said). but what actually is the difference between the two different types?

Im liking the TAT style - but probably doesnt do hardly anything in comparison... but there are ones on ebay that look pretty reasonable...

dynamically... what are the differences?

Cheers

I can't imagine the difference between 4 and 6 would be massive dynamically, not on the vx at least Looks wise I'd go for the 6 but the 4 still looks good - I think I'm getting one for Valentines day

i have the 4fin jimsan one, and i think that they do make a difference, not as much as the big ones that thorney use, maybe its just my mind playing tricks on me.

this is the one i have

Posted Image

the MMG that i fitted to phils car seemed very square against the rear lines and to be honest didnt suit the car really at all, he told me that people commented on his diffuser saying it looked crappy and not like it belonged there. but i guess thats just personal opinion.

i think personally the MMG one is too square.

well i was swinging towards the 4 fin.... but i see your point... so i take it that were just going with the diffuser being a style mod... rather than gaining us any more aerodynamics!? should the diffuser be used in conjunction with a splitter or a spoiler for it to be efficient.. if it is going to have any efficiency!! :P yea, was thinking i could save myself a few qwid and go pick it up meself, is that Red VX with the 6 fin an mmg one? liked the look of the TAT ones? anyone head much about them? the site i link to seems to be this german one i think... euro exchange is bad atm so prob wont be buying anything from there to soon! cheers guys!

Of course I don't own a wind tunnel so can't prove it, but there is quite a bit of compelling evidence that these do make a difference, at high speeds anyhow. The improvements in airflow can be seen by the fact that when you have one of these the rear of your car doesn't get as dirty as if you don't have one. The air must be going somewhere?? And yes I understand that a longer one will mean that the airflow is pushed away from the car meaning little if any uplift but still have to say that surly a shorter diffuser must give at least some gain?

course it is... its the one from the bloody ebay advert! sorry... me being thick! the thing about the TAT one, is it fits flush to the rear... which makes it look less like an after thought... and is more in keeping with the new style diffusers as shown above...

http://www.lotuscars...ype116/shop.php and follow the link to the TATs :P

next VX meet, il be heading on down with my diffuser sherlock holmes cap on...

From reading other threads on here (iirc) the diffuser must protrude a distance from the back of the car to impact in a beneficial way and it will be at speeds of 90/100+ that the benefit will be felt.

I had a lift with a forum member round the ring and he felt it made a difference through fast (maybe 110/120+) sections of track.

The fact that it keeps the back of the car cleaner sounds like a bonus thumbsup

I think the short diffusers like the one on the clio are purely for show - but Im not scientifically minded enough to say exactly why.
