Please excuse the newbie ignorance here, but the VX I have put a deposit on has a push button on the steering column. Is this normal? If so, what is it? I didn't dare press it when I was viewing the car as I was already having enough sodding problems with the alarm going off....

It will be either to reset the trip computer or I think cars fitted with central locking have a button on there as well (not 100% sure on the central locking bit as my VXT doesnt have it)

Reset the trip mileage and if you hold it down it goes through 4 differant brightnesses for the dials. On my NA stack it does these, not sure if turbo is differant?

Blimey, thanks for the quick responses. I don't think the car has central locking as the passenger door didn't open when I unlocked the drivers door.

Mine has an extra switch to toggle on-off certain extra devises ;) but as said..yours resets mile counter and stak brightness. Have you a manual for the car? I'm sure i could sourse you one if you needed me to :) Edited to add...gosh i make myself laugh sometimes. I was just about to add that it may have helped your case if you had said if you had a turbot or n/a..and then saw your pseudonym..doh :beat:

Thanks Iceman. I think there is the standard manual that comes with the car. However, I have only just put the deposit down yesterday and haven't actually collected the car yet :( I have to wait another 20 days (not that I'm counting...)

Please excuse the newbie ignorance here, but the VX I have put a deposit on has a push button on the steering column.

The button controlled several 'options' which depended on what the original owner chose when the car was new..

Most opted for the above mentioned mileometer adjustment - however Vaux did also offer the following which could be controlled from this button.... if you were prepared to pay of course.

Option 1: Electric boot release

Option 2: overide switch for PAS (ease of parking)

Option 3: Auto lumber support inflate/deflate

Vaux also offered a little known 'Option 4' which when you pressed the button a working fuel guage appeared on the dash - however I don't know of any cars that had this fitted.

I thought the button on the column was so that if a thief wanted to break into the car, he could push that button and it would unroll the soft top and unlock the doors......

There's a copy of the manual (albeit for the Speedster) here. It's linked from the Wiki, one of the "Want More Information" docs linked from the Newbies section. There's lots of other stuff there and you might want to have a read through before you take delivery.
And welcome.

I am pretty sure that you only need to press it once to reset the trip. And as said, if you hold it down it cycles through various brightnesseseses for the stack backlights :)
