I spend much of this weekend doing a few jobs on the VX, one of which was to fit front splitters to my NA. There have been quite a few posts lately on splitters and how best to fit them, which rivets to use etc so I though I would take a few pics of how I got on. I hope it helps someone.

Firstly I bought the splitters from Autovaux, about £40ish inc postage.
Tip - they arrived the next day even though I didn't pay for the next day delivery.

Painting guide:
1 - I sanded them down with wet and dry paper. No pics of this, I'm sure you get the idea. You could drill the holes first, I didn't but up to you.

2 - 2 coats of grey primer. I used the halfords spray cans, seemed to work fine. I left half an hour between each coat and did the top and bottom.

3 - 2 coats of paint. Again I used the spray cans from Halfords. They didn't seem to have the exact match but I didn't think that would matter due to the location of the splitters. I went for the Vauxhall Astro Silver which is a very close match to the VX silver. Again I left about half an hour between coats.

4 - 2 coats of Halfords clear lacquer. I then left the splitters for an hour before moving them and cleaning up the mess. I left them overnight to make sure the paint was very set before drilling.

Pic 1 - the kitchen floor, don't tell the Mrs, she was away on a Hen do.

Alignment guide

1 - The next step was to drill the holes in the splitters. I used the three pre-marked holes in each one and used a 5.5 drill bit.

2 - I then aligned the splitters on the car using masking tape to hold it in place until I was happy.

3 - Using a sharpie market I market where I needed to drill holes in the clam.

Pic 2 - ligning up the splitters.

Drilling guide:

1 - I jacked up the car to give me the clearence.

2 - I drilled the middle hole first (cordless drill helps, 5.5 bit) then used one of the Halfords interior trim panel rivets to hold the splitter in place while I checked other two holes were lighed up with the marks on the clam and that it all loooked ok from a distance.

3 - I took the clip out (it is like others on the VX, a plastic screw into a plastic plug) then drilled the other two holes.

4 - I fitted all three clips and checked it looked ok from a distance.

5 - Let the car down from the jack and repeat with the other side.

Pic 3 - The car on the jack.

I seem to have run out of upload space for the drilling and a final all fitted pic.

I hope everyone gets the picture.

So what you need:

1 - Halfords Tim Panel Rivets here.
2 - Drill with 5.5 drill bit.
3 - Paint if you want to paint it.
4 - Philips screw driver
5 - Jack.
6 - About half a day to paint (if you want to) and about an hour to fit.

Just for future reference/newbies, the splitters do not need to be painted - they are fitted as they come on Turbos chinky chinky
