I'm looking to rent a garage near my house for over night parking. Unfortunately, my car is in the body shop being repaired, again. Just wanted to know if it is possible to park a VX in a single garage and get out?! I put the courtesy car (1.2 Corsa, lovely!!) in there and it was pretty tight. I don't want to have to push the VX in every night!! Thanks

mine fits in fine, but can only open the door half way its a bit of a squeeze getting in and out but i'd rather have her garaged especially in this weather lol.

:yeahthat:

Screw a bit of carpet to the wall to protect the door and you'll be fine, then just pull the car out!

* don't put your fingers between the alloy and the caliper tho... ;)

Mine goes in a single garage I have to have the window wound down to aid escape best thing to do is a large bit of carpet or carboard to put on the wall where you open the door then you can open the door without damaging the door !

Panicked like hell when i bought mine even though i measured the beast before buying (via here!) when i got it home i thought how the hell is that going to fit in there?! now im used to it, it really fits very snug with bbq, lawnmower etc behind and the dustbin by the side! echo the other guys getting out is a tad cramped tbh, i have put a square of polystyrene on the wall which i somehow always manage to miss!...bugger. Yeh dont push it out the garage..a certain someone here did that and we got him to post a picture..not pretty!.

I used to have this problem putting my Cossie in my garage!

Get the Vx in the garage exactly how you want it. Then get yourself a small rubber ball (like a squash ball or dogs ball) hang this from the ceiling of the garage with string. I used a small brass hook screwed into the plasterboard and hung the string on that. If you position it so that the ball just touches the windscreen, you'll get the car spot on everytime you pull into the garage to park it = no more chipped door edges! thumbsup

who needs expensive parking sensors, this way costs about a quid

I wish I could open the door to get in and out, I've got a pillar halfway down the garage which narrows the width a fair bit. I have to wind down the window, roll back the roof, climb out over the door, refix the roof and then I can just open the door enough to get my arm in and wind the window back up again. It's worth it though to save having to leave the car outside. Ren

reverse car half in , leaving a few mm between passenger mirror and door frame, then pull forwards, engine off, jump out and just push VX with one hand

Agree with all of the above. Foam on the wall is a must. In the Summer I tend to leave the roof off to avoid having to take it off when I go out in the morning and I can hop over the door in order to get in chinky chinky

Measure the garage thumbsup The house I am currently living in has a single garage but seems to be just that touch wider than normal, makes so much difference. If I park to one side I can open the door fully and get out with ease, if I park in the middle both driver and passenger can get out reasonably easily. None of this window down or roof off business though, I am a hardtop all year round man poof poof I do have cardboard on the walls in the areas where both doors open still though, excellent advice which has been repeatedly given here. Similar to the dangling ball thing, I have a mark on the drivers side piece of cardboard that I line up with, this guarantees I don't reverse into the back wall  Nothing like having the entire world covered in snow and opening the garage door to a pristine VX

Oh and place a mirror 3' high by 1' wide (B&Q about £20) in the N/S corner at the end of the garage and you'll be able to see exactly how close the N/S of the car is to the garage wall, You can get the car very safely within a couple of inches to the wall this way giving you the most room to get out! thumbsup

Don't have any space issues as I've got a double garage but have screwed a couple of lengths of wood to the floor of the garage (0.75"x1.5"). When the rear wheels in the case of the VX or the front wheels in the case of the Audi reach them, I'm perfectly parked to maximise space at the rear of the garage. Doesn't work so well if I park one car or the other on the "wrong" side of the garage.
