Hi, I want to be very sure what the exact engine name is for the 2.2 Ecotec. There seems to be some subtle varients? Is it the 2.2L, or what code numbers actually define what engine this is? The reason for asking, is that I'm about to order some Wiseco forged pistons from Exploited Racing in the States, so I need to be sure of what I'm asking for. The price is $475 plus $55 shipping, which comes to £288. A barguin! Steve

Thanks, Steve. What are you doing with your new engine? Have you got it yet? I'm interested to know what your ideal engine will be! Steve

I thought L850 was the family name (as in the 2.0 Saab turbo is also an L850) and that the engine was Z22SE but I could be wrong. I'll be very interested to know the progress on the pistons Steve, looking into getting a set of rods and pistons from the US myself and I am keen to learn from your experience Paul

Steve,

Aren't the JE ones at 8.5:1 the right ones? HERE

Speedy, I think they refer to the 2.2 OHV engine that is popular in the States not the Ecotec

careful Steve, those are the wrong ones.
it always have to say ECOTEC, otherwise it's the old crap.... :P

the ones you are looking for are at the bottom of the page and cost twice as much.

Ecotec High Performance Pistons
Directly replace stock piston heads. Includes Pistons, rings, and pins. Top piston ring has been lowered for high output engines.

Piston Set $895.00, probably more if asking for custom C/R.

I would have got'em anyway, after the Mantapart experience.....having to resort to lawsuits threat is never a fun thing.....

Hi Ricky, No, they are the right ones. He says that he hasn't advertised them yet so they aren't on his website, but they are the same as for the 2.4 Ecotec (but smaller). They are the ones he has used in his 2.2 Ecotec that he's running the article on. I like the fact that he's also using the Eagle rods that I've just bought! Steve

Do they do them 1n 8.5:1 – those shown are 9:1 ? If they really are the right ones, it does sound quite reasonable and it's even more tempting as they can provide the Eagle conrods too, so better chance of it all matching up. :)

You put them in your cylinders and they go up and down in a "more expensive" sort of way! Steve :D
