Makes me feel a bit chav but I want 2 wheel spacers on the rear!

I have never been able to get rid of a graunching when the right suspension compresses unduly - the side of the tub and liner are being scraped. It even does it occasionally on the left now that the cambers are 'maxed out' ... same witness marks.

I can see no solution apart from wheel spacers.

I think 3mm would be enough - certainly will try that 1st.

It seems I can get something a bit bespoke that comes with new bolts etc. (I would telephone to check bolt length) or something a bit chav and hunt for longer bolts (fancy some black ones anyhow).

Any comments on whether the Halfords one would do the job and save me cash/mail order or should I go for the Wheels UK ones?

Alternatives?

you would need to get hub centric ones, fk do some good ones, although you may strugle with the 5x110 fitment

Ah - thanks :) Reading this page, it seems that for 3mm spacers, they are saying the normal wheel bolts are fine. They are not hubcentric for slim spacers and I guess this is to do with the fact that some of the hub will still be poking through? Below is a hub pic and it looks more than 3mm to me.

If buying theses and using original bolts seems a good move to people then that is what I shall do.

There's ~16mm left for the hub after the brake disk ;)

Thanks alanoo - that's the hub-centric, or rather lack of, bit sorted then :)

Any comments on re-using standard bolts with 3mm spacers? To quote FK: Most of the time any size up to 5mm width will mean you can use the factory bolts, any larger than 5mm and you will need to buy longer bolts.

I was very fortunate to be given a set of 5mm spacers by a forum member thumbsup. I have just tried one to see: After the fiddly fit, I noticed how few turns the wheel bolts take to fit  . Examining the bolts shows they only go in around 1 cm anyway so 5mm less is 50% travel! Much though I would like to be free of graunching noises at Snetterton tomorrow, I also wish to be free of the much louder noises made when the wheels tear off! They are back in the shed :D I'm really glad I had a chance to play with spacers for free as I am now put off them! My answers now are: 1) Live with it 2) Get wheels with a different offset - there is certainly room to shift the wheels out by 5mm.

3) Get 5-10mm longer wheel bolts to cope with the spacer

Could do but the look of the wheel gap to the hub sort of freaked me out ;)

Try some washers approx the size you want. Put the wheel on and have a look at the gaps ect to see if the 3mm would work. DO NOT DRIVE with then fitted. This would give you a rough idea what it would look like. The vx wheel nuts/bolts are about 3-4 mm longer than front wheel drive bolts. If you measure the depth of thread though the disk and hub there should be plenty of length. There is always a few mm of the bolts stick right through.

Jonathan, Sorry they didn't work. I used them with Astra SXi wheels to trial the 16" front wheel. From what two4oneuk has said, the bolts on the vx may well have been longer than most front wheel drive cars. This would explain why the SXi wheels + spacers, fitted with VX wheel bolts had plenty of thread left to bolt into the hub. I'm sure I've seen 5mm longer wheel bolts on ebay which shouldn't cost too much. Good luck.

Go for a stud conversion with nice long studs :D saves lots of pissing about when whipping wheels off etc :)

Nothing to be sorry about mate - they work - it's just they sort of made me freak out! With longer bolts they would be fine I'm sure.

Saw Chris Randall's Europa all finished at Snett today and that had studs with nuts on as Stuart has described above. Not quite as pretty as standard bolts perhaps but looks jolly effective. Is it easy to do Stuart?

I think the car knows about this thread as it remained almost fully silent on the track as far as arch graunching goes. I think it's probably the stiffer rear springs combined with the fact I have raised it about 7mm. Ride now 117/127 but Chris will set me 120/130 when I have time to pop in.

Function over form everytime chap :D

and yes VERY easy to do.
There are a couple of ways to do it with the kits.. either a philips screwdriver fitting to screw them into the hubs with tons of the super duper thread lock on, or put two M12 nuts on it and do the stud up into the hub that way with the thread lock on.

then fit wheels and lug nuts to look super baaad ass cool :D

Has anyone fitted 30mm spacers on the rear for hard track day use?

https://www.carnoiss...l-vx220-6045650

What bolts would be recommended?

Fronts will Probably only have 9mm spacers.

I’ve no likely issues with Tyre rubbing.

I had I think 16mm spacers on the fronts, tracked on R888 with no issues, so should by ok on the rear I would have thought.

Only issue is you are substantially moving the centre line of the wheel outside of the bearing assembly, increasing wear on the bearing.  Considering the extensive mods you are doing, might be worth exploring moving the hub itself out so you can keep the same offset, but with a wider wheel?

ETA unless you have a wheel with an ET to compensate? But then I guess that doesn't really solve your problem...

I really appreciate your advice, which makes sense. I will look into it more thoroughly In the next few weeks.

Cheers
