Ive been driving around in my Turbo all day with no problems whatsoever then all of a sudden I pressed the brake pedal down and it went all the way to the floor before the brakes worked. I thought maybe I was just being a bit paranoid because when I tried again the pedal was firm again. Two minutes later I applied the brake again and down it went, pressed again and firm...mmmm. I then drove home and parked it up with engine runing and applied them again and down it went again, pressed brake once more and pedal was firm. Ive checked and fluid level is fine,no pipes off or leaking that I could see either!! Im thinking maybe Master Cylinder. All advice will be appreciated and much needed, Thanks, Danny

Its upto 5 years , so worth getting it fixed as a rework by Vauxhall if it still has the original vacuum hose, although this would manifest as a hard pedal. In this case , it would be worth putting 1L of brake fluid through it

I have this problem too at the moment. Having my vaacum hose done Wednesday as it's deteriorated at the end. Didn't have the recall done either. Also having brake fluid changed. Since the fun with my brakes started my abs light comes on alot too. Putting a switch in this week too though

Yes thats right,I took a mate to show him how good it handles 5 minsbefore it happened. Should I bleed and refill with dot 5.1 or maybe a silicone fluid??
Would this help? I dont know!

no dont change fluid types its so much hassle that its not worth doing imo.
I think your right changing the cylinder as leaks dont manifest as fluid leaking out but rather air leaking in and that sounds alot like whats happened and by pressing the pedal more than once you were able to build pressure.

imo get a mechanic to look it over rather than ppl on the internet speculating.

best of luck!

:o Don't mix silicon brakefluid with other specs of brakefluid. If you change to silicon you should also change all your brake system seals and flexible hoses, as otherwise there is a chance that they might swell up or split - not the best outcome for brake components! Phil

You have just described exactly what happened to me and my VX yesterday. I got the AA out to check the discs pads fluids and to see if there are any leaks and he very confidently said there is a leak in the brake master cylinder as there were no other problems. Pumping the pedal once or twice creates the pressure again and he said there was normal pressure at the pads/discs. He also showed me the location of the cylinder and so it looks a relatively striaghtforward job.
the problem

Did you change your cylinder and has it solved the problem?

Also if you did change it where did you get the cylinder from and what was the cost?
