Right - I promise I have tried various searches on this but just wanted to check if there are any pitfalls I need to be aware of of buying an Opel Speedster over a VX220. Insurance appears to be a little higher but acceptable as the car looks like a good deal to me (being sold on hi-torq) - just under 9k for a 36k mile, 2.2l, 02 plate with a hardtop. There don't appear to be many around in London for sale soooo ... yeah! Ideally I'd like a turbo but can't afford it so for now will settle for a 2.2 and upgrade one day! BUT - are there any pitfalls - for example if there has been any recalls can this still be done? If I take it to a Vauxhall dealer are they going to be ok with it ? etc etc Also this one has had a stage 1 upgrade? Err I ahve tried googling and searching but what does this mean exactly and do I need to tell teh insurance about this (I am guessing I do but I don't know what it means!). Thanks for any help and apologies if either of the above have been asked already

Other than the front grill and the name badges saying Speedster rather than VX220 it is the exact same car! Simple as that.

yes, you should tell insurance about the stage1 - not sure that it adds much to a n/a but best to be safe. its a remap

Ah ok thanks for that.

I was getting there based on my googling but some of the search results also implied a change to some other bits and bobs such as exhaust.

I will need to check what the remap does in terms of upped power/torque when I check the documentation of the car

You'll also need to tell the insurance if you get an Opel Speedster, as it is officially classed as an import, which some companies will add a premium for (mad, I know )

my car is a vx220 on paper and all badges, engine parts etc are all stamped vx rather than opel and the steering wheel is on the right but the name plate on the dash says speedster #4459? bizzarro, checked its history and it was registered new in the UK and it was apparently always a vx220 except for that wee name plate. confused the hell outta me in the beginning now i just ignore it

Did you do any more research on this car? Did you buy it? If not what was the reason?

Thanks

No worries. I contacted the seller, he's a trader from home that cant be bothered to return telephone calls and keeps the car in a lock up somewhere....mmmmmm. David
