Nope, not a direct replacement really. The VXR engine is much the same but the gearbox is an M32 rather than an F23, so gear linkage problems will be encountered, though these are not too bad apparently. Ask DuncanVXR, he has an Astra VXR and M32 box.

I thought the engine was the same minus balancer shafts / better turbo and teflon coated bores and under piston oil jets. So you could use the standard gearbox.

VXR engine has slightly larger turbo, no balancer shafts, pressure cast pistons with teflon skirts, oil spray jets and bolts to the 6-speed box (no reason you can't bolt it to a 5-speed AFAIK). Also, some of the sensors are different.

As stated, block same as LET. Some of the turbo pipes are different due to turbo but about it tbh Gearbox is a diff story, you need Europa gearbox mount and shafts and then some MEGA expensive europa gear mech / cables etc - or what is done on mine some PMT and bit of cutting / welding and bracket / tension device to stop you getting reverse instead of 1st and jobe done Box is BRILLIANT but only if you can get the rest of the bit cheap, also tighter when doing clutch as I found out today :( DG

keep the 5 speed box & is almost a direct fit. just a few sensors/connectors (3 IIRC) that are different, no major big deal though. personally, i wouldn't bother with converting it to take the VXR 6 speed box, but its upto you. i've done it and its a PITA for not too much gain IMO. all a matter of opinion though as Duncan loves it! p.s. - Duncan, not forgot about the gear gaitor mate, will get it out to you ASAP :)

John, thanks regarding the gaiter ;) you are a star :) Not sure if it because I run more power that makes me love the 6 speed so much? But a better gear change (shorter and closer) and is second quicker to 100 compared to the std 5 speed ratio's makes me happy (dw1. David) was very impressed lol You are def working the box harder on some track but can still show 169mh gps so ticks all my boxes :D - vx is not a GT Can see how the longer geared 5 speed has its + points but always feels a bit tractor in gear change (maybe not the best description, you know what I mean :) DG
