I had a locost (lotus 7 replica) for 4 years and sold it 3 years ago. I did my 3rd VXR track day last week and have got the fast car bug again. Managed 115-120mph at Thruxton in most of the VXR's and didn't get over taken at all, in fact did quite a bit of over taking myself. Looking for a Red VX220 Hard Top, I guess hard top is better for being weather proof as my garage is full of crap at the moment, not sure which one to go for, 2.2 or Turbo. probably looking to spend a max of £11k. I aim to take it to a track 3-4 times a year, would the turbo be better for the track? Who is the best for insurance? I am 33 with zero no claims having a company car for 4 years accident free and policy to be limited to 5000 miles, and could do with insurance for the track. Current best quotes are about £570 using the compare websites but doesn't include track day cover. Does a modified VX cost much more to insure? I have always liked the VX's mainly because they are a bit rare, I stopped to take a leak the other month in Hayling Island on my working travels and saw a convoy of VX's leave the seafront as I parked up which was a bit of a nice surprise Thanks in advance for advice

Hi Paul, Welcome chinky chinky No such thing as a 'Hard Top' model. The hard top was an option on all cars, so some will come with one - some won't. They can be bought second-hand if you really want one, and tend to go for around £500 at the moment. The n/a is better on corners, the Turbo faster on straights - so the s/c'd n/a owners will probably claim they have the best car of them all! The n/a vs Turbo debate (and it is a friendly one :) ) is continuous! Really though, you should test-drive each, and work out which better suits your wants, needs and driving style. Insurance has been covered a gazillion million times on here - if you put 'insurance' into the search engine, you will get enough threads back to keep you going for months. Some companies seem to suit young drivers better; some - unmodified cars better; some - modified cars; some - trackers; some - non-trackers etc etc. Owners of modified VXs seem to report that Adrian Flux are extremely competitive; however they seem to be the most uncompetitive when it comes to unmodified cars! High Street companies seem to do well as long as your car is unmodified, but quotes rocket ridiculously as soon as you start fiddling. If you want track cover included, CCI seems to be a popular choice on here. If you want a closer look/feel, post up a request for someone in your area to give you a passenger ride. And when you're ready to look at a VX, ask for someone on here to come and look at it with you. Both are normal behaviour on here - we're a jolly friendly bunch, and a really outstanding community :grouphug: thumbsup Best of luck with your search PS It's our National meet the weekend after next at Anglesey, so if you are in those parts - pop along and get some pax rides/meet some owners. More details can be found in the 'National' sub-forum in the Meets and Events section

Because of the company car insurance, if you can get a letter from them (employer or insurance company) to state that you have not had a bump, it will help with getting a no claims bonus on your insurance.
