I have been looking at engines.... Particularly the H1 Hayabusa. From the layout, with a Quaife sequential, it looks just a little to long for longitudinal fit but I am not sure how far you can point the CVs forward. The Cosi will be similar IMO. I'll let you know if the H1 fits when my current engine expires and I find £20k.

I built an R1 engined Tiger B6 & the engine was phenominal.

Hartley H1 has been fitted into an Atom and I think you can buy a kit for Lotus fitment.
Only that pricetag...

Been day dreaming about that H1 busa engine in a vx. Amazing as the engine is though, I have doubts about how good it could be in a heavier car, you always see these bike engined things as Caterhams, Westfields etc etc. The vx although its a light car compared to others its a fair bit heavier than the 'norm' for these engines. Think it would kill it the performance? I would like to shake the hand of the person that puts a £24k engine in a £15k car. Imnotworthy

You will need a different gearing for the 10K+ revs and that will help in the wheeltorque department. thumbsup

Those engines are just pure race specs with feeble torque... acceleration in a 'heavier' VX would suffer :(

Also, I wonder how long the engines would survive without a refresh... jolly expensive to run I'm sure...

Still, I bet they make a fantastic sound.... turn your speakers up and have a listen to this Radical SR8 warming up...

I think you are mistaken about the torque, the key here is comparitive torque because 400+ft/lbs is not feeble from the base spec turbo, I don't think you would think the acceleration had suffered if you had one in a vx. But I agree, for race or extreme track cars only, can't imagine it lasting long either. Oh and I believe you can have a Atom or Caterham with a similar engine producing around 500BHP and it only costs £115k or so.

If you reduced the rev limit, would the engine last longer? (Appreciate you would get less bhp) or is the "refresh" required for another reason?

I think it would be more a case of things letting go rather than general wear, there just are not enough of them to have had the problems properly ironed out, and with a lot of bespoke parts used unless you have money to dyno engines for months and months you are not gonna get enough data to find all the possible probs. If you look at the spare parts list for the Radical powertec engine you get the idea that things break a lot.
