I had a look at fitting the Spitfire kit today,

First off, I'm presuming this is in the right place (nearside)

The kit is supplied with 4 bolts for each side to attach the braket (is this correct?) So I'm presuming I don't add a bolt to the hole that is already there through the slot, shown as number 5 in the pic?

The thing is, holes 1 and 2 line up smack bang centre with a part of the subframe where the support plate/leg brace is welded on, meaning if I drill through at this point it will be right where the metal is stepped - I've tried to take a pic showing what I mean:

This will mean that the washers will only be clamped on half of their surface - is this right? (It may well be the way its designed, but thought I'd best check )

As hard as I tried jacking the hub side connection in different positions the ball joint just keeps spinning, so it looks like mr Dremel will be putting in an appearance for that part :D

Yep, it's only 1 and 2 that come close to the crease in the metal, of course if you have the brace kit them those 2 bolts/holes are not needed.

I've spent enough this month  How much is the brace kit...

Do I need to pack the rubber boots with grease, or should they be left dry (I guess they'd arrive greased if they needed it )

I have added some high quality grease to mine, it's designed for extreme conditions so should do the job of keeping everything lub'd thumbsup

That brings on yet more questions then

How did you get the grease in - syringe

And did you use some locking wire on the three gaitors afterwards to make sure it stays in and doesn't weep out once heated by the exhaust

:D

I applied a little grease to the gaitor, then it slipped off the bearing quite easily I only used a small amount of the high quality grease and it's designed not to run when hot, so not a problem for me. normal grease probably isn't the best stuff to use as it will melt when hot

They can be greased but they don't need to be, the benefit in greasing them would be to prevent any grit getting into the joint, but it's very much optional. A light grease, nothing too thick would be fine, Gaz says no specific grease is needed.

Are the Elise Shop toe links Spitfire?

As they say

"This kit comes including dust covers. However, warranty will be void if the kit is installed without using any grease on the rod ends!"

Yep, it's not something that the manufacturer has stipulated though. The kit has now been revised slightly by a couple of mm so the neoprene boot forms and even tighter seal in any case.
