I'm in the process of renewing suspension bushes/balljoints/etc etc....

On the bolt heads and nuts that bolt the wishbones to the tub there are rectangular lock washers that you have to bend over once the bolt is torqued - need to order some more as mine have seen better days.

Now for the problem. The EPC shows these washers as normal M10 x 20 washers, (Number 6 here) have they done away with these now and replaced them with normal washers and nylocks?

Cheers.

Kevin

They were fitted on mine, but I just used normal washers when I put it all back together

Good luck with the work. I officially finished my refresh this morning with a GEO at Back on Track. They checked over each corner to make sure the work that I had done was OK. Regarding those lock washers, I didn't put them back on the car opting for new nuts, bolts and washers instead.

Thanks - 3 hours work today, all 4 rear wishbones off, balljoints and bushes pressed out. Front to do tomorrow then off to the powder coaters on monday!

Just need to do the cam chain & engine mounts now!

I did the same job last winter, vauxhall weren't able to find the tab washer part no. I ended up getting the tab washers from Stratstone's the lotus dealer in Leicester. I'll try and find the part no for you tomorrow.

hmmm... might have to order a set aswell. Thought it would be OK following the EPC but would feel happier with these back on I suppose.

Kevin: It is well worth the work, just got back from the first proper drive after the refurb and the car is a joy to drive. Nice and smooth over the bumps, steering feels a lot sharper and all in all it just feels better connected to the road. Could easily be the best mod so far.

I was considering Gaz shocks (currently on S2s) and an adjustable ARB, but it feels so good I won't be bothering (at least not in the near future...)

Makes a surprising difference doesn't it? My car had done 65000 miles when I did the refresh and felt like a brand new car when I'd finished.

Yep, really happy with the way it turned out.

If I go back to modding the car i'm inclined to go for handling over power at the moment. Might even sell the set of Schrick Cams and Springs that have been sat in the cupboard for the last 10 months...

:yeahthat: I used nordloc washers on mine 33p each for the zinc coated steel ones, you also only need normal nuts not nylocs so even cheaper.

Cheers Pete - Glad it's going to be worth the effort - the front wishbones put up a bit of a fight today but I got there in the end

I would have just changed the one bush that had gone but managed to get most of what I needed from work for a steal :)

Doing mine too. Mine had nylocs, thread lock and locktab washers. I just ordered a set of locktabs from Chris Neils. Paul just found exactly what I needed and posted them to me. Top job. Then a bolt set from elise shop...and ....and....and... It gets expensive!

the bolt set from elise shop is overpriced and not plated so it will look tatty in no time, i'm putting together a much better kit.

The kit I have is plated. Fairly heavy plate but I agree its is overpriced.
