What have you planned for the brakes?

PS Nitrons rule by the way. You know you can't resist......

Nothing too exotic at the moment. I'm fitting custom made aluminium belled grooved discs and Pagid RS14 pads;

- Fronts 295mm (with a small adaptor on the caliper radial mount to fit the bigger disc)
- Rears 288mm (standard size)

I know someone who has used this setup on his Exige with pretty good results.

I've been looking at bigger disc options, but don't like the idea of the extra unsprung weight with these. My ideal set-up would be the VX Sprint system, 4 pot front and 2 pot rear calipers. So this mod is just an intermediate step, until I can find a suitable AP 4 pot for the front, and modifications to fit the existing 2 pot front onto the rear.

Just kicking this off here with a few questions

Is he making more than 1 set??

Initial cost? Weight saving? Subsequent rotor costs?

Lotus also are working on a kit. I plan to fit 4 pot fronts and 2 pot rears with a wilwood handbrake caliper. The rear uprights will be S1 Exige with the motorsport toe link. The Exige S1 upright will allow me to fit the front radial 2 pot caliper. Discs will be AP alloy bells with AP discs of larger diameter all round. New stronger driveshafts to fit the Exige uprights. Balance bar with twin master cylinders will replace servo.

Duke Are the elise uprights alloy? Eliseparts do alloy (billet) rear uprights, if you're interested. Does this mean you are reverting to 4 stud wheels? Can you keep us posted on overall weight saving? You too Gary if you don't mind. There's a beer in it I promise. Cheers Dean

Yes I am going to 4 stud hubs and speedline wheels. I'm aware that elise parts do alloy uprights. There not cheap at nearly £800 for the just the uprights. Think I'll stick to the original ones. Weight is a consideration but as I'm going to lotus hubs and speedline wheels I'm saving quiet a bit. Also The alloy bells against solid discs will also save a bit of weight. The standard Motorsport uprights apparently are slightly heavier than the vx ones. However overall I'm sure I'll be much lighter. Incidently there is also a motorsport front upright in either cast or alloy. These use the smaller wheel bearing of the S1 elise and are inferior to the vx/elise S2 hubs.

What sort of costs are we looking at for the brake setup's? Definitely need new brakes - the standard jobbies on the VXT are *bleep!*

Andy, just get some uprated disks and pads and you wont believe the diffrence. I have the vauxhall drilled disks with greenstuff pads and the diffrence is well, a lot better than standard. Not tryed it on the track yet mind you.

I uprated the pads on my old n/a to Pagid RS14's and there was definitely a marked difference BUT they're still not good enough in my opinion. With regards to the VXT you can get to silly speeds and arrive at a corner quite a lot faster than you'd anticipated. Poor driving, true, but it happens, and if the chosen braking area is in any way uneven or bumpy you're in for a brown trouser moment. I'm going to fit RS14's to my VXT at some point over the coming weeks, but there should be a braking system that is in-keeping with the performance of the car. The current system isn't fit for a base Corsa IMO...

Cheeky, a friend is looking to make them by modifying bells he supplies for the S2 Elise. Should have more info in a couple of weeks, but have a look at website here to whet your appetite
