If you can, try to see if you can get Goodyear to make GSD-3's for the VX as well!

Minime. That would'nt be a nice way of saying that you flat spotted your current 4 during the little 1080 Degree sight-seeing trip on a corner at Castle Coombe would it? Imnotworthy I had some yokos on my 306GTi and 106XS that looked just like the T1-S's they were brill in the dry and the wet performance has improved dramatically. :groupjump: Cw.

question for ricky...... if we were able to get a 6X17 front wheel do you think 195 or 205 would be ok? especially as you have driven your car with fronts on the rears and visa versa.......i am just thinking of what alternatives we have to consider :jump:

Steve, 195s will fit on the 5.5" front wheel. I've seen them on the Elise 111S wheel, and they don't look over-sized. The Elise has Nitrons and is tracked regularly by someone who knows a thing or two about driving - ex-Benetton test driver no less. Gary

you won't find 6x17 rims (unless custom made....cheap option! :D ), even 7x17 are close-to-impossible to find. 17 inchers all start from 7,5, a size that limits the steering significantly. 195 will fit on 5,5, but truly needs a 7' to deliver. me thinks that VX sprint used the 16' front for a reason....

I know this sounds a bit extreme, but the following combo of tyres is possible:

TOYO T1-S

For the front

205x50/17 - Toyo legally states on its site that it supports a 5.5 rim

The diameter of the tyre goes up from 24.6in to 25.1in = 0.5in increase.

For the rear

235x45/17 - Toyo legally states that it will support a 7.5 rim

The diameter of the tyre goes up from 25in to 25.3in = 0.3in increase

OR

245x45/17 - Toyo legally states that it will support a 7.5 rim = 0.7in increase

The diameter of the tyre goes up from 25in to 25.7in

I would check how much space there is on full lock, and ensure that it passes.

I would also warn you that the acceleration will reduce significantly, because the gearing will be higher, although top speed is higher.

The balance of the handling, mmmm....don't know much about that, but the lack of choice on the front tyre means the rear will be very slightly higher or lower than previously.

You can check all this on Toyo UK website www.toyo.co.uk

cheers

lotus has 4-bolt pattern, so a total replacement of hubs, discs and calipers is required...cheap huh?! :P offeset is 40 front and 37 rear, if I remember correctly. the OZ superleggera I've got are 35 both.

having fitted the OZs, A) how does the steering feel on the road ? more or less sensitive. B) does the car tramline badly over rough road surfaces ? C) do you think that the OZ superturismo has a similar bolt pattern and offset available ? cheers

I'm afraid someone has to be the guinea pig, in trying out a new configuration, but if successful, I will probably join you on the band wagon. cheers

I wouldn't risk it if I were you the 205/50 is allowable on the 5.5 rim because it flexes more, and is not likely to pop out of the alloy. However the lower profile you go the less the sidewall flexes, and combined with the increased grip due to the fact that the tread is now a 205, this may cause it to pop out. Toyo should send you an email to confirm what they say in writing, before you risk it. Just my opinion. cheers

goof, that's a very correct opinion, that any race-tyre expert will agree upon.

I was at a spring fair today, and I saw this OZ stand....all three types of superleggeras displayed. afaik, those are the lightiest rims on the market, race "magnesiums" aside.
