:( thumbsdown Spun doing no more than 30 mph going down a motorway slip road.......... hit the safety barrier and came to a stop facing the wrong way. Hopefully its repairable, pretty scary though at such low speeds! I knew I shouldnt be driving it in the wet, the roads are very greasy!!! The front clam is pretty ruined but the car was still driveable, had to wave goodbye to it on the back of the tow truck fairly upset

Yeah, its an awful feeling. The AA guy did say there was quite alot of diesel on the road where I spun it which made me feel slightly better in a strange way. The thing is now, how do I try and work out if its going to be repairable or a write-off?? Theyve taken it to 'Just car clinic', are they trustable?? What makes them define a write off??? It appears to be just a new front clam and 2 new headlamps, how much is a new front clam, are they even available brand new???? I know headlamps are £700ish brand new!! thanks

Definite write off m8 clam and headlights will be more than half the value of the car. Gutted for you. They are no fun in the wet I just dont bother with mine any more unless its dry.

I'm assuming you are familiar with the OP's car - the condition, mileage, value etc?

They are no fun in the wet

No problems (touch wood) as a daily driver for over two years. I just don't get this 'don't drive it in the wet' nonsense. I also think there is a fair amount of scare-mongering on here, which is a shame because I think these cars are a lot safer (when respected) than is often made out. Just my opinion

Sorry to hear OP - hope you aren't too shaken, and you get it all sorted out without too much stress :)

Is that really the case?? If its more than half the value they'll write it off??? Its a '53' plate with 49k on the clock and guessing its worth approx £10,000. I was thinking it was more like 80% of the value for them to write it off?? Has anyone got any ideas?? Or has anyone got any first hand experience? Thanks

:yeahthat: in the wet driven properly  ........here and they was oil as well
had mine 8 years and i will say if you drive the car not being 100% confident you will end up losing it
bridgstone always on bad weather plus minimum 5mm on them
sorry tom to see your misfortune but few's car limits or track teach you so much on the car .............

*sigh* not at you tom A new clam, lights and some spray work is gonna be at least 4-5k Assuming its an NA regardless of mileage whats the value? 8k? The insurance company will probably look at writing off at 50% upwards due to the age of the car I would think. I should say I have driven my previous VXs in the wet extensively and you can do it but TBH the limits are so easily breached in the VX other than just poking the back out a few degrees I just find it a bit hard work. If its raining I grab the RX8 keys. Now thats a fun car in the wet. LSD, oodles of steering lock and an uber quick rack. And no grip makes the engine feel quick lol

1:18 could have been a nasty accident on a tight B road.

So do you all think the chances are it will be written off?? Yes, its an N/A, but was in near perfect condition, I bought it for £10,500 in June this year and since then ive spent £3000 on it including a front a d rear re-spray. What should I expect?? I have GAP (return to invoice insurance too) will this work??? thanks

Were you steering? Braking? Accelerating hard? How much tread on tyres? It would be interesting to know.

Are these kind of spins in the wet, not something that could affect any high powered / RWD car ?
As people posting on here sometimes give the impression that the Vx220 is the only type of car that this could happen to :excl:

I think it might just be more likely in a VX due to the short wheelbase and the amount less weight it carries.

quite alot of diesel on the road where I spun

I've with Yorb and CF on this one. In fact I'd go so far to say those who do drive the VX everyday (or most days) and do drive it in the rain are LESS likely to have a crash as a result of spinning. Repect the car, Respect the conditions and the only cause of crashing is the person behind the wheel.

Sorry to hear you've crashed Tom. Put it down to experience. If the crash box is ok it might not be a write off. If its taken a bash almost certainly written off.

Just got my 70k 2001 NA repaired. Just rear clam, £5k repair. If it had been £5,001 they would have written it off. Hope it helps. Feel for you man, hope it all works out OK. Still use mine daily and still on Toyo 888.

Feel your pain, did something similar about a year ago. Mine was written off needing a new front clam and crash-box (headlights were intact). 02 plate 35k miles. Plus side is they are pretty easy to put back on the road if your insurance company will let you buy it back. Mine did, cost me < £2k to put on the road with a repaired clam.

The tyres were new on in July, im guessing theyve covered approx 3000 miles and have about 6mm tread left. I was perhaps accelerating slightly too hard for the conditions, it wasnt raining but the road was obviously very greasy...... as said above, the AA man did say there appeared to be diesel on the road. I must have hit the barrier going no more than mid 20 mph.......................
