hello all! ive just registered on this site and have been reading through the threads on getting more power out of the Z20LET, but im still a little confused so thought id just make an arse of myself and ask again :) i took my VX to be put on a rolling road earlier today and it came back with 232.8hp. Im pretty sure the only mods to the engine are the Miltec exhaust system and a remap by superchips. i was pretty surprised as peak power was at about 4500rpm and then it tailed off towards the end of the rev range. Basically im looking for somewhere around 300-320hp and would like to hear from people who have done it what the best and most cost effective method is. the guy at the workshop said to go for the GT28 turbo but i think ive seen some of you prefer the GT3071? i appreciate this has probably been asked before so i apologise in advance!! alex

Big-Power-Vxt-Project

Nev and Duncan VXR are running the power your after (or were, their cars are probably in bits)

Many people running just shy of 300, but I think going over takes £££££s.

300 is possible on a VXR turbo. If you want big power then you want a 3071. If you want to spend 3071 money, but get less for your money, then get a GT28 series. Simples. :)

thanks for your responses chaps! so would it be fair to say that if i am going to spend the money, then i may aswell go down the 3071 route rather than the GT28? i suppose i would be able to recover some money if i sell the original turbo (only 20k)? will i need a chargecooler? is there one place that you guys can recommend for price/service etc? courtney, regal, tms?? thanks once again alex

3071 or GT28 will both be expensive. Yes, you can probably get a few ££ for your current turbo, but it won't be enough to matter. And yes, you will also need a good CC system. It could end up costing £5K before you know it. Also, you are mostly on your own with either of these AFAIK, not familiar with any off-the-shelf systems or established tuner support for either of these.

OTOH, the VXR turbo will be a far cheaper upgrade - and there should be decent tuner support for mapping it.

I would not rule out getting an astra vxr turbo, as the garrett turbo needs over 3000rpm before they get going. You will also need a charge cooler to get a reliable 300bhp. I would speak to courtenays before you proceed, as they will give you an honest view of what you want. Steve.

Hi all, I have been running an Aquamist water injection system without CC for over 12 months and its coped well with providing stable temps, the system works over 0.9 bar and is much less money than CC'ing my VX does have a larger IC. Any questions pls PM me - I got Euro 500 for my old KKK so they are worth someat  Cheers Ian

ive looked on the courtney website about their astra vxr turbo upgrade, but my only question would be whether or not it is capable of holding boost all the way up the rev range? for example, my vx feels quite rapid initially, but then as the dyno print out reveals, the power tapers off after 4500rpm. i want it to pull all the way to >6500rpm. with regard to the garret turbo's, where abouts do you get the add-ons like manifolds etc?? cheers :)

Courteneys have just brought out a cast manifoldfor garret turbos, not as good as there normal ones but cheaper i think. Best place though would prob be Chris Tullet. If you pm Duncan VXR about his hybrid turbo then that may interest you as its alot cheaper than the garrets
