A lady friend of mine has a VW Urban Fox and is having a major problem with condensation on the inside of the front screen and today it was also frozen. Does anyone on the forum have a family member or friend with this model ? if yes, do they get the same problem ? Geoff. :)

Quick easy fix is to get a large bag of silica gel and leave it on the dash board at night. Is there water leaking into the car anywhere? As there must be a reason for all the extra humidity

Suggest:

1) Check for body waterleaks and subsequent damp carpets.
2) Is the car loosing coolant? If so check for heater hose connections or possible heater matrix leak.
3) When demisting make sure you are on 'fresh air intake', NOT recycling on the heater controls.
4) When demisting also run the Air Con (if fitted) with the heat control set to max. (The heater will overwhelm the cooling effect
but the air con will still act as a powerful de-humidifier )

Must ne moisture getting in somewhere.....I had one of these as a courtesy car and it was ultra-airtight, trust me. The door would not shut unless you really slammed it or opened the window slightly. The dealer said most of the Foxs did this. So I doubt it is water leaking through door seals....! Check under carpets to see if any signs of water in footwells. My Golf had problem with aircon drain hose becoming detached and soaking passenger footwell.

Cheaper alternative to silica gel is to use cat litter in a sock. Never tried it myself but is a well known technique for getting condensation out from MX5s!!

Best of luck...

Not sure about the Fox, but other Volkswagens are a pain for water leaks. Known areas are door seals as mentioned, the pollen filter housing seals, sunroof drains (little rubber exit in front door shuts block up) If your carpets are damp then the sponge underneath will be. This will never dry out on its own before the smell gets hold, the carpets need to be lifted to dry it out. Seats out job and reset of airbag light that will come on when the seats are out.

i no it may sound silly but has she got the vents on the windscreen all the time? i sometimes have to re program volvo xc90 damper motors so they dont rest with the vents open on the windscreen when the car is turned off, if not then must have a water leak somewhere, melting snow on the floor? any coolant loss?
