I've found that I can position my sat-nav (it's a tomtom One - the slim version) using the standard windscreen mount, onto the flat aluminium panel between the heater controls and the light switch, to avoid fixing it onto the windscreen.
Does anyone else have their sat-nav positioned in the same or similar place as this?

"After the next roundabout keep right" Sorry I misheard that, look down............... Wallop! For that reason if I use one (which I very very rarely do) it is definitely in my line of sight. NB. Forget using one in Paris, let alone use the second option of "missus navigation" as you will just get lost in one of those sodding tunnels!

Nah not really in the way, i usually have it in on the passenger side and tilt the screen in a bit. I guess it would get in the way if you are carrying a passenger.

Last time I used it it dropped off a couple of times, its fun trying to retrieve it in the passenger footwell:D

Mine always falls off after a couple of minutes in the low position. Can't hear the voice at any time at any volume.

The garmin comes with a plastic disk where the mount sucks on (did i spell that right?)
The plastic disk is attached with double sticky tape to the alu on the car.
(the expensive kind that can hold mirrors and medicine cabinets etc)

The mount fell off a few time this year, but resuck and ready to go.

I'm constantly amazed by the number of people who have them slap bang in the middle of the windscreen - line of sight? - more like total lack of sight! Mine in tucked away in the corner of the windscreen against the pillar - easy enough to glance at, but not blocking my vision of the road. thumbsup

I know where I'm going ! If I don't I look at the map, maybe even a signpost. Anyway, GPS is on most modern phones now, so obviously it is update time for your old phones. How did you manage before sat navs ?

I know, I know. I always said I'd never have one: "I'm a man - I read maps". B)

But then I found a £50 deal and bought one as a toy. And discovered how useful they really are when going somewhere new for the first time. Or following a hoon route when you've lost the car in front. I don't have mine in the car very often, I still carry a map, but it's very handy at times! thumbsup

I have been working on a new interior (for ages) for my car and Im going to have a hardwired 5" sat nav screen where the starter button is or slightly further into the dash. I chose this location as I wanted to see it easily but not block any of the view out of the windscreen.
