Ok done a search for the topic title, and got:
Earthing Problems
Free Mechanics Day
etc
etc
So is there a proper procedure for doing it?
How do you get the fob apart?
Do you have to change the battery within a given time, or it loses the car specific info?
Any help would be appreciated, or a linky to a suitable thread.
Ta.

I think it's meant to be done within 10 minutes to preserve the synchronisation, or similar. 10 second job though, just lever the two halves apart, the 2 off CR1220 batteries are held in a black plastic ring type holder that just pushes out from under the contact. Swap in new batteries, push the little holder baack under the contact. Clip two halves back together.

Yep, or visit a Maplins store as they are cheap cheap cheap there!
Whilst you have the covers open check that the circuit board isn't floating about in there... I put a little blu-tac behind it as I had noticed a bit of movement which meant that occasionally that the button wasn't quite as easy to click.
Just a thought!

I had to open my remote whilst I was typing as I couldn't remember whether it was one or two batteries, so it's definitely the right type.

sometimes the batteries on mine actually slip out of their retaining clip and just float about inside the fob. (if I've dropped my keys for example)
I guessing on some occasions they might have been disconnected for more than 10 mins, get to the car press frantically for a while, then lever open re-fit batteries
bobs yer uncle
never fails to work

Thanks for the info guys:
Key Fob Batteries
Thought I'd go for a known brand (Energiser). You can get alternatives for 99p, but who knows how long they'll last.
Just opened the fob, and the circuit was loose in there, but the internal design has spigots and ridges, which I suspect hold the board firmly in place once the fob is closed.
We'll never know!! But I can't hear it rattling when I shake the fob. (Strange looks from the other half!)

Thread ressurection time.
Changed the batteries yesterday in one fob yesterday but no doubt left it longer than ten minutes hence the central locking doesn't now work. How do I capture the synchronization again?

With a working fob arm and disarm the alarm sixteen times or until the alarm stops responding, alarm now in program mode.
Once in program mode press the button of the new remotes(s), press the button of the original remote(s). This must be done within 8 seconds of each action. If 8 seconds pass without any actions the alarm will automatically exit programming mode and you will have to start from step 1.
Wait 8 seconds to exit learning mode.
Test remotes.
I'm hoping this works...
