Hi, Our VX needs a service and MOT. We stay just outside Glasgow but are willing to travel further afield if it means it gets done properly and by someone who actually knows what they are doing. We were recommended somewhere in Dumfries but can't find the details of the garage anymore. If anyone can recommend anywhere in central scotland that would be great! We've had a couple of bad experiences with muppets 'fixing' the car so I'd like to make sure we don't go through that heartache again! Thanks in advance. Ali

For another option I use Dreadnaught garage in Calander (MG and TVR specialist) for servicing and repairs. I get my MOT done at my local Skoda garage in Banockburn with no issues.

I would recommend Falkland Performance (Dunfermline). They do a lot of work on Lotus Elises and a few VX220's. They have worked on my VX220 a few times and I find their quality of work and hourly rate to be good. They even changed the timing chain for a very good price. I have been to Manor Garage and found them to be quite pricey and also a bit slow! I had to chase them plenty of times while my VX220 sat in their garage doing nothing. Also they are out in the country - a good 45 mins out of Edinburgh. Dreadnaught are really TVR and performance MG's - I know this as I used to use them when I owned a Tamora and Tuscan. SLS out in Loanhead NEVER return your calls or enquiries (as a new potential customer) apparently he is so busy he does not need to boost his new client base! Bad businessman if you ask me! Honestly - try Falkland Performance!

Owners son used to have an Elise and do lots of other Elises so they know the cars very well, I have had zero issues with them and they recently did my radiator as a rush job and for a very reasonable price. Yes they are MG and TVR specialists but that is by no means all they do. I have heard stories about Falkland but will not say anything as I have not personally used them.

In the end remember it is just an Astra engine so any spanner monkey could service it for you, the problems come in when you have clam removal etc.

Anyway it is up to the owner and they can make there own judgement, if you go on to Scottish Elises you can also ask the same question and will get a big range of garages to chose from as it is more Scottish focused.

I have nothing to do with Dreadnaught by the way :)

All owners will have their garage preferences - but it's forums like these which steer people to the better ones from past experiences they have had. Dreadnaught know their stuff, trust me, I have spent serious money with them in the past! I just prefer Falkland - based on price and customer service. I agree with what Craig says - anything mechanical (engine) is common Vauxhall fodder, so any mechanic worth his salt should know his way around one. But I like to know the mechanic knows the cars inside out and all their personal traits, issues and improvements which can be done.

No idea, loch tay is a good run or we could try the Borders and take in the Jim Clark and David Coulthard museums. When the nights get longer and warmer we should try a Dukes pass run and BBQ on a week night evening as it is quieter and any excuse for a BBQ.

There's a Vauxhall garage in Dumfries (James Haughs - used to be Coles). Is that the one? I was in the other day and notcied some Thorney literature. Turns out that they are an approved Thorney official motorsport performance centre.

Thanks everyone for your replies. That's a great help. I'll get on the phone tomorrow and try and get it booked in somewhere next week. I think I might try Falkland Performance given it's location and reviews on here. As for a Scottish run, that sounds like fun! I'll keep logging on more often and see what the craic is. Cheers guys.

They seem to be a little better attended now and a little more often so watch out for them.

As for the BBQ idea, I have a little portable gas BBQ that is brilliant for this kind of thing because you can open it up and get it cooking in minutes! thumbsup
At some point in the summer I want to do a round trip round to Dunoon where I was born. The rest and be thankful road is a belter in good weather.

I propose we get a run organised for the end of March at some point. How does that sound to everyone?
