If I take off a separate wire from the rev counter or speedo feed wires for things like a shift light will it affect the rev counter itself? I guess what I need to know is if its an increasing current feed or is it a pulsed feed? Cheers

isn't the feed via the NSR hub, ABS, ECU, then finally to Stack.

Yeah it is. My concern was that if I tapped into the signal wire and it was an increasing current system then the current would be split and the instruments wouldn't read correctly. A pulsed system wouldn't suffer this. It should therefore be possible to just tap off the feed to the stack.

speed comes directly from the ABS ECU rpm comes from the engine ECU, 2 pulses by rev

is that right? I thought the speed was adjusted by the ECU to overread as what I can see on the stack and what I can read from the OBDII are quite different. Also in the ECU I can see the traction control functions and switch , but not active , also cruise control functions.

The cluster only has to be 10% accurate... so the errors are probably in there as opposed to the feed from the ecu. IME the ecu tells the truth and the dash does what it wants with the info

Yep the Stack speed actually works perfectly with a standalone and no OE engine ECU at all, no problem with that

It is only the Tubby ones that over-read the speed. It is to make all you tubby drivers believe that you are that much faster than the NA. My NA with Stack is 100% accurate checked against sat ground speed. The rev counter wire is pulsed and I spliced it to run a separate shift light and both shift light and rev counter work fine.

Thats the sort of thing I'm up too. Dont suppose you know what colour wire the rev counter feed is and what colour the speedo feed is do you?

CLICK

If I'm reading that correctly it's the violet / pink wire going to H1.24 for the tach signal and the brown / blue wire going to H1.25 for the speedothumbsup

Quick butt in on wiring. Nice to see a nice colourful loom. Spent the last few days sorting out a few wiring faults on a BV206. All the feeds are Red and earths Blue, only 2 colours on the vehicle. A little tricky trying to follow a wire haha

I know of somebody who rewired his Ford Cortina completely with a job lot of black wire he got.

He was fooked when it didn't work, had to scrap the car in the end...

Without taking the dash off I can't tell you for sure what colour the wire was, but I remember I got the info off this site.

I've wired a few cars up with one colour looms, but I did fit numbers at each end

Yes, wiring diagram might do it, easiest would be to take the signal from the ignition coil but it’s a one piece cassette.
