I have booked my car in for GEO and suspension adjustment on 19th April at Guglielmis. Before I bring in I am wondering whether I should order some new springs. I currently have 550 Rear and 400 front and cant seem to find a rebound rate that eliminates the front end bouncing on uneven surfaces. The best I can get is with Rear 16 - front 15 clicks (from full hard)but this feels too soft for big dips in the road and leaning during cornering. Should I go for something like 550R and 450/475 Front? Seems to me like I have too much difference in spring rates front to back. I have tried nearly every possible combination and am reaching the end of my patience! :beat: Any advice welcome Matt

set the rear dampers to a slower rate ( or more + ) , this should stop the tail wagging the dogs head spring rates look fine are you sure it is not tyre bounce?

those clicks from full hard sounds waaaaaaay too stiff imho. Try 10 or so from full soft and have another go. as stiff damping tends to mean skittish behaviour :s so softer damping and a stiffer arb might be a good answer :)

Why not take Steve Guglielmi's advice. He's a suspension expert. thumbsup

I will be taking his advice but I want to make sure that my spring rates are good first (I have also contacted him with the same question) My rebound only goes to 21 clicks from full hard so 16/15 is quite soft on this scale. So 10 from full soft would be 11.

Your spring rates sound fine. Chris Randall told me that the standard Gaz on my car would only work well with stiff springs and soft damping - due bump/rebound stuff I didn't really understand (sorry Chris, I know I nodded and said 'yes' a lot ;)) He was right. The Golds may well be different but try my standard settings first which were 8F/17R - both from full soft out of 40 clicks (yes, I know that I should count from full hard but smaller numbers are easier!!). I had same spring rates as you.

Thanks - I am gonna try stiffening the rear up - I wanna get somewhere close before going to Steves as that is a few weeks away and I am driving every day.

I initially went for 10f/14r from soft but it was too skittish on rough roads. I am now at 7f/10r. The rears could probably go a little higher but its now good enough for the rippled/cambered/crap roads round here.

What ride height are you running at the front, as too low and it will induce bump steer on a standard geo? Steve.

Ride height is around 120 Front and 130 Rear

I would raise the front until you have a geo and the bump steer will go away. Steve.
