Hiya, I know there may be topics already relating to this but I have had a look and I am in work so don't really have an awful lot of time. Just yesterday when getting out of the car my passenger (despite being told repeatedly not to do so) leant on the bodywork beside the sill where the door would close over and has cracked it. This happened to anyone else? I am sure this is a fairly common thing but was wondering what sort of cost is involved in fixing this or replacing the section? Any help much appreciated Cheers

Hiya,

I am not sure about actually fixing it (i.e. costs) but i leant on mine while looking under the seat and it creased quite badly but luckily didn't crack.
To solve future issues and to cover this issue, I have just fitted CF sill guards which cover it completely :ninja:

Im fact i think im going to take my passenger seat out as in a VX... passengers are just a whole load of trouble on every level...

They
- Step on bit's they shouldn't,
- Pull on bits they shouldnt,
- Eat too much for lunch and then slow my car down,
- and scream when i apply any gas.

N O P A S S E N G E R S ! ! ! :angry2:

Also why do people feel the need to bang the door shut. :angry2: I am sorry to here this has happened to your car and as advised above I would just cover it with a sill guard as a fix will be expensive. Steve

Take it to a fibreglass specialist. I doubt it'd be that expensive to repair. A photo would be nice if you have one. Its the painting that costs.

I took mine to get repaired at a fibre glass specialist last year. Cost me around £150 from memory but I can't be 100% sure. However in the last week a passenger has lent on it and cracked it again so I officially give up and will be investing in some sill guards! It's amazing, my drivers side is perfect, passengers side has little bits of paint missing and a small crack! Grrrrr :angry2:

The exact same thing happened to me the first week I had mine, so I've just stuck some carbon fibre sill protectors over the top. I did consider getting it repaired, but then I thought it's more than likely just going to happen again so what's the point? The sill protectors firstly hide the crack and secondly strengthen the sill so it's less likely to happen again :) another alternative is to cover the whole area in yellow and black hazard tape :D

I find it impossible to believe that a slather of plastic/carbon-fibre can strengthen them. And strengthen them against what? Any pressure that would be sufficient to crack the sill, I'm sure would crack the protector - or the sill beneath it  They simply prevent scratches to the paintwork, I am inclined to believe

Thanks for the advice. I might look at these carbon fibre protectors. Do you know of where I could get these and is this something I could put on myself? I don't really fancy looking for a fibre glass specialist as I am very busy with work at the minute and as I live in the back arse of nowhere it might be a bit of a hassle.

They look like they may be what I'm after. Had a quick look on the thorney site and couldn't see them though. How much are you looking at for those? Also do you know if that is the only design available?

I take it those sill covers just protect the paint work on the top of the sill bits and/or add a bit of bling? How do they look once fitted? Anyone got any photos?

Well I made mine out of approx. 2mm thick carbon and just double sided taped them to the sills. It really does strengthen the sills because it spreads the load over a greater area :)

Had a look on e-bay earlier, were different looking ones to those above and I thought they looked a bit cheap. Buy now for £80. Thought you would get them cheaper than that though.

I'd say that might be just the job. Mine's black with black and red leather interior.

It's true!! You take a perfectly normal and decent person, put them in the passenger seat of a VX and they change into complete turnips!!

I had a girl in the car the other night for a quick spin, nothing too serious but as you say we had the squealing when I applied the gas, then at the end she asks (quite seriously) "Is it at all possible for me to drive this?"

Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
.....
NO!
