Not a hard job at all, and in fact easier than most other cars on the front. If you get really stuck, I can do them for some beer tokens. Will have to trek over to Essex though!

quick guide.. no pics Front : 1. wheel off 2. inset small drift (i use a small allen key) into the retaining pin hole (in the caliper) to push it out 3. take metal brace off (dont loose it) 4. take top bolt out of caliper 5. loosen bottom bolt 6. pivot the caliper down 7. both pads should be able to slip out 8. reverse order to put back in Rears : 1. wheel off 2. undo handbrake 3. take out retaining clip 4. pads should come out 5. use a pair of long nose pliers and insert then into the 2 holes on the piston and turn clockwise while pushing 6. reverse order to replace now i cant remember if you can get the pads out without removing the disc or not.. but you can try it, if you need to you can undo the caliper and pivot it like the front one, i think you need a 17mm socket on the top bolt.

Huh??

Front caliper does not pivot??

Front pads are simply:

- pull R clips from rear of locking pins
- push pins to the outside and remove
- catch anti-rattle plate as it jumps out
- pull pads out
- use brake-cleaner liberally to clean piston surface and groove before:
- push pistons back with hands/thumbs

- clean up surfaces
- fit new pads
- fit lower locking pin
- fit anti rattle plate
- fit top pin
- refit R-clips in pins to stop them moving

Done...

Oh.. And on the back I find it much easier to tap out the locking pin, drive the outer pad towards the hub and down until it drops out. Then remove the brake disc and you can access the inner pad, piston, etc.

No need to mess around with the handbrake cable, bolts, etc. etc.

Bye, Arno.

Just doing pads? then no need to bleed the brakes. just pump the pedal before driving otherwise you will overshoot the first junction

Kieran, I'm up the road from you, just outside uxbridge! I'm not free until Sunday, so if you can hold out until then I can happily pop over and we can sort the brakes out.

Looking at the guide for replacing the rear brake pads, do I need to release the handbrake before I start?

Not Always.
If your disks do not have a lip, and the disk is standard size, you can:
1. Remove the retainer pin and spring.
2. Take out the pad on the outside by sliding.
3. Remove the disk retainer screw, and slide the disk towards the outside.
4. Remove the pad on the inside.
5. Remove the disk.
6. Rewind the caliper piston.

Adding new is the reverse order of above.

No need for caliper tilting, nor handbrake removal.
