I found some software (free) on the net to read the data from the ODB (?) port.. gives a reading of various things like how much throttle your using etc.
It can be loaded onto a PDA and gives a live display of the above.
But how to connect it??
Does the connection under the dash have a technical name?
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Alternativly, which might be easier; does anyone know of any software that can be loaded onto a laptop that would do the same. Again connecting to thingy under the dash may be a problem... any idears??
I'm not sure why I want to do this but it did sound interesting...

Delta dash (develpoed by ECUTek I think) was very common on Subarus.
Not sure if it could be addopted for the VX, but it does use the OBD port and if you know a bit about engine management you can remap your car yourself

I like the idea of the OBD guages, but I'd be thinking of the Defi-Link gear
I suspect the real trick is finding a way to mount them so that they are easily visible. A DIN sized thingy to fit in the radio hole would need to have bits of it angled towards you? Could they be fitted on the dash without be too obtrusive?

Yup. OBDII. The biggest problem you'll have is that you'll need some level shifting and opto-isolation to convert between the K-Line data bus on the car and RS232 on the PDA / Laptop. Be aware that there are several different flavours of the K-Line bus, which is probably why Thorney is having issues.

Right thats decided......leave it alone.... lets Thorny works his wonders on it.
Thanks
Dave
**I was hoping I could just go out and buy a lead to connect to PDA + car**
