Does anyone have experience of the MMG underdrive pulley kit? I have a stage 2 turbo and was thinking of fitting one mainly because of the occasional squeaking that comes from the existing belt when it's damp. Are they worth it, is there much of a performance gain and how easy are they to fit?

Removes 4.5kg of weight and allows the engine to spool up quicker. Makes revving alot free-er! Worth doing for £150 and not exceptionally hard to fit!

Does make a little bit difference, u get to throw some bits away from ur engine too lol the tensioner plus some other bits, gets rid of that really annoying squeaking in the rain too, not to bad to fit, can be a struggle to get the old pulley off but apart from that it's fine

I went for the courtenays one at £99. It got rid of the squeak when wet and saved 7.5kg of pig iron. I was amazed that the engine response was so much better. :jump:

Fitted mine a couple of months ago, really surprised with the results in a positive way. Fitting is a bit of a pig, if you want to remove all of the other gubbins. Make sure that you have some ratching spanners.

I just threw away the extra bits, and bought a shorter belt for about £9, also saves almost as much weight and gets rid of the squeak. If I remember right a 917mm belt fits directly but with possible issues with the oil unions, a 900mm belt requires a mod to the alternator bracket but gives more clearance for the oil unions.

I brought one (underdriven pulley) back from Courtenay's on Saturday which was supplied with a 5PK858 belt, but have not fitted yet. I was told that the belt will fit with no mods to the alternator bracket. Hope this helps. Mitch

How easy is this to fit, fellas? I take it it's ring spanner around the tensioner, move the tensioner back, pop old belt off, remove ancillaries....then what?

Does not save anymore than 5kg ;) weighed all the oe bit last week when fitting one as I forgot what they were and weighed the MMG one. There is nowhere to gain another 2.5kg ;)

But 5kg is a lot for what it is and does remove a lot of redundant kit freeing up revs :P

Once belts off with method you state its just removing all the bits and not hard if you have the correct tools (torx) Sure its E12 & E14

I haven't seen the others but I am impressed with the mmg one, it is a lovely bit of kit cast out of a solid aluminium billet, it came with a tensioner so you can adjust over time if necessary. I got Liam to fit it at the same time as a service because I am about as mechanical as a snail.

I was very impressed with the kit I received from MMG about a year back now. The quality was fantastic and the mod is well worth it too! As Duncan says - it won't save you anymore than 5kg of weight!

I take it there can't be much difference in the kits?

Isn't the Courtenay one just the pulley, whereas the MMG is the kit (including tensioner bracket and belt)?
