Probably need a new ECU , anyone replaced one before and how much did it cost. Other question is what caused it to fail on yours. Could it have been using a jump starter unit as in my case? Dan

Recall them NOT been cheap new but CS can help you there if you need one. I know Chris on the boards (Kristopha) got one sourced local and paid a lot less but cannot remember the cost of the new or 2nd hand option? Are you sure it's the ECU? DG

I paid 1125 euro incl vat for mine at opel. Keep in mind that opel/vauxhall just go through a checklist with an issue, and tick off new parts just for the fun of it, and stop replacing once fixed, regardless of how many parts needed. Unnessesary replaced parts, are NOT deducted from your bill. YOU pay for the trail and error. The ecu replacement seems quite high on their list. I would suggest to tell us your problem in detail, before handing over buckets of cash to vauxhall. edit; found it: http://www.vx220.org...arting-problems Battery replacement is cheaper ;)

Mthe person looking at this does think it is the ECU as the Key transponder is not talking to the engine......... I could ask him to replace the battery first and see what this does but don't think it is the issue as originally car started on a jump start and then then shut down prior to disconnecting jump start source suggesting something had stopped functioning. Car now turns over but won't start.

If i'm not mistaking, the Key transponder is only connected to the imobiliser. The imoboliser is connected to the ecu (and has a handshake only a techII can make) If you really want to take the ecu road, ask if you're techie has a techII device, with which he can reconnect the handshake between a used ecu, and the imobiliser. (he has to remove the old handshake from the used ecu first) Crafty has an NA ecu lying around: http://cgi.ebay.nl/w...em=110526899036 Legal notice: i'm not a techie and have tried none of this myself. I am just relaying info i learned from the forums.

I got mine from http://www.ecu-express.co.uk/ & it was £300 or £350 cannot remember exactly, with a 12 month warrenty (this is void if you re-map it). It came complete with 2 Transponder chips to insert into your keys. All i had to do was give them the Chasis number and they pre-coded it all so it was plug and play when i recieved it. Pretty good service to be honest. :)

I was told from http://www.midpointgarage.co.uk who did the work for me that my old one could have failed from heat / being exposed in the boot area.

http://www.midpointgarage.co.uk < If you are local to these guys i would highly recommend them! excellent service & good prices if you mention this forum :)

I am not 100% sure of your problem but if it is the ECU needs recalbrating to your transponder keys I no Mid point garage have all the equiment there.

I had a boosting problem and i changed everytihng under the sun, From new turbo to every sensor possible costing a fortune.. I never thought it would be the ECU.

Hope you get it sorted anyway.

Result. Amazing just how quick garages are to rule out something so simple and go for the expensive option. thumbsup
