Some may remember I got my console leathered with a yellow stripe.

Figured I'd have a go at my doors myself so I bought a whole hide of yellow leather. When I was done wearing it I got down to business.
I had a play with stripes but decide they looked gash.

Hope you agree??

In the end I just did them plain

Piece of pish. I'd recomend anyone considering this do it themselves. Ayone with a yellow car want some yellow leather I've got loads. If I dont get rid I'll be sporting a yellow leather mankini and gimp mask at the next peak district meet.

How did you get them to fit into the concaved handle area without creasing?

Leather strecthes if you steam it. I steamed it over the veg steamer (dinner in the bottom, leather over top). Then I cut a piece of wood the shape of the handle cut out and clamped the leather to the door card with that. Waited for it to cool and dry then loads of glue and reclamp. The result is what you see.

Did you sand down the original panels first, or just glue over the original coating? Any particular type of glue?

Also, what did you use for the black plastic triangle around the handle area (and is it lasting)?

Thanks for the info bud!

I just used regular solvent based evostick to adhere the leather. No prep or anything and I've had no problems. It does continue around the back of the panel by about an inch.

The triangles were rattle canned with a dark metallic grey. This was troublesome as the original paint wrinkles. I ended up sanding all the paint off and starting from scratch. The original silver really is a pain so remove it first. The new paint has lasted just fine so no worries there.
