There is a new bit of kit that I'll make available to VXR and turbo/na owners. Lotus has developed an Ohlins adjustable suspension kit for the both Exige and the VX. Its unbelievable what it does to either Exige or VX but it is rather hard (25%+ spring rate versus the VXR/Exige set up). Lotus will offer this as an option to Exige/Elise owners as a retrofit . The best way to describe it is if the Turbo suspension is 60% road 40% track , the VXR is 40% road 60% track I'd say the Ohlins is 90% track and ok on the road. The VXR suspension is quite remarkable and Gav has done a top job because even in the wet with bald 048Rs it was fantastic , there is little roll at all ,really good bump absorbtion but you instantly tell you're in a more track orientated car The steering is direct , placeable , tho heavier than standard. The Ohlins kitted car was even better to start with but you do notice the harshness coming thru which is absent in the VXR suspension. To give you a clue at one point he said 'at the moment the only suspension is the tyre sidewall'....it really is that stiff. Of course you can dial it out of the Ohlins but it comes at a price..... So for VXR customers the Ohlins is £1000 fitted at Lotus Motorsport. This will be cheaper than Lotus will offer because we're absorbing the labour as we have to fit new suspension to the car anyway. For non VXR owners it'll be approx £1500 fitted , as we strip and rebuild the suspension. You get a nice little book on how to set your car up from Ohlins / Gav , and its all painted yellow so it must be good. For those of you who've not heard of Ohlins , ask a biking friend... If you want it please let me know asap as we need to start ordering parts. I'll send a letter to all VXR intended owners on this tomorrow. Stu

sounds good but i think it would be too harsh for Louise seeing as the VXR will be her first car to legally drive on the road. Any news on the harness bar yet?

i let her drive my NA but she stopped after 5 minutes as she was frightened of pranging it. I keep telling her she won't be able to handle it but she knows best

Cool B) The bit about adjustability is the crucial thing. There is no point having adjustable suspension unless you actually change it for what you're doing. I hope the Ohlins book is pretty detailed. Mind you I can't talk......at Castle Combe this week in the pooring rain I just looked at my settings and I was running on maximum hard, dry track settings no wonder my teeth hurt :beat:

Is it a different kit than the one they (Ohlins) are already selling for £1400? Cost?

Stu, I'm interested in the suspension. Can you PM me the spring rates if possible? I'm assuming Lotus Motorsport could supply and fit the Speedlines/A048s at the same time? Oh, and if my car was down at Hethel getting this fitted, could they repair the rear clam paint problems for me? rather than sending it to the Technical Centre

another £500 for non VXR owners. Hmmm, that kinda sucks as i would be well up for these at a grand. Is an additional £500 really justifiable?

VXR owners are getting a discount, since upgraded VXR suspension is already included in the price they are paying. The £1000 is to cover the extra cost of supplying the Ohlins kit.

Sorry to drag this old thread up but I am just starting to look at VXR posts. Stu, will you be able to dial the suspension to better suit road use etc, if so how would it then compare to the VXR/exige for comfort etc. Also is the ride height adjustable? If not is it lower than standard VXR setup thanks John
