Hey, just been having a browse re: use of JML Magic Eraser on the Ali tub. I get the impression that there should be no issues?

Tried to find out what chemical is impregnated in the sponge to no avail. It does however do a stunning job on the Silver door cards, Silver window surround and the most suprising the alloy wheels have come up like I have never seen.

However when reading up about the JML sponge on Boss VX's thread The Ali floor on his is different to mine (notice the border around the centre of the passnger footwell... Is this a Tubby only thing?:

http://www.vx220.org...post__p__932862

Alternatively in DarrylB's thread it isn't there seemingly it resembles mine far better:

http://www.vx220.org...ost__p__1032102

Also- how the hell do you get the brace (the ribbed part just in front of the seat mounts) clean - ie in the ribbed parts? I attacked it with a brush then the hoover.... but still not 100% happy as I want it as shiny as the rest will be.

I will stick up some pics of how well the wheels have come up on mine.... They were pretty much anthracite after a couple of weeks abusing the new Mintex pads (fcuk me they are dusty little buggers). I even spent an hour treating all the door, roof and window seals with a coating of AutoGlym Rubber/Vinyl Care. Then tonight I think I will treat them all a small smearing of vaseline to minimise any squeaks coming from them.

EDIT: Typed too fast

Hey, I think the JML Thing should work - but my advice would be to use some All Purpose Cleaner (APC) Tescos own brand (Daisy) is pennies and does the job just as well. For the ribbed bit, I used a nail brush, a tooth brush, a tooth pick and plenty of cotton buds oh and plenty of APC! Patience was also required! smother it in APC, run the tooth pick down the ribs to remove as much crud a possible, then attack it with the toothbrush and nail brush! I used a few old towels soaked in a bucket of water and rinsed out to clean it all up. As for that border? I think it's just a mark/sticky from the mat? Post pics when ya done!

That's a sound insulation/anti-vibration pad stuck to the floor of BossVX's car. Not sure whether it's standard on the tubby, or part of the tubby touring pack (or whatever it was called) or even an aftermarket thing. NA floor is bare metal underneath the mats.

I have pretty much given up trying to fix it now.... Everytime I lift a spanner it just makes things worse - so I would be best just leaving it alone!

As for yours FLD, is it really fixing? My guess would be more of 'improving'

Hey, just been having a browse re: use of JML Magic Eraser on the Ali tub. I get the impression that there should be no issues? Hi, yep i've used this on the alley tub as well as other places, it's quite good and not to harsh,i paid the top wack for it at asda £4.95, i think it was, but you can cut it to smaller sizes,it is abrasive, but you can use it on the door cards to remove boot/shoe marks and it works well, also used it on the gear leaver surround, alley floor, and the ribby bits to clean all the crap out.It does disintigrate with use i'd say a couple of interior cleans and it's used, as it breaks down.Personaly i think its a bit expensive,i would probably buy a new one when this one is knackered as i'm a bit obsessive with cleaning! but overall it does do the job quite well, definatly worth a try hope this helps, Mark. it needs to be used with water(lubricant) as without water it may scratch the alley

Well I had a pop at the Ali with the JML and it seemed to do the job nicely. I took the mats off the clothes line and stuck them in the tumble drier for an hour before putting them back in the car. Still think they could do with a deeper clean, but they are so much better than they were it is untrue.

I am however going to have the wheels off again in the next couple of weeks so will get deeper into the recesses for the bolts as they are the telltale signs of how dirty the wheels were before. Plus the car is really in need of a polish and waxing, but simply do not get a period of time long enough to get it done in one sitting - unfortunately I am reluctant to do without having washed and dried immediately before. The dust that is in the air at the moment is untrue.

As for some pics here are a few samples, there are more in the photobucket account (link below)

That's because it is ash from the volcano.

I need to find me one of these magic erasers.

I didn't want to jump on the bandwagon!

But well the cat is out of the bag now..... However the worst thing is the fcuking greenflies - after a journey down the A1 on Sunday the nose was about 70% green and as I wiped the registration plate with the washmitt the combination of squat and blood made the plate illegible - yep more than my grammar!

It's good, but not immaculate.... There is still a lot of effort to go in yet!

Ahh - always wondered what those pad things were. Badly positioned and look out of place. This must be why I have silence and no vibration in my VX ;) :D .

Good luck with the cleaning - looking great so far.

When you come to the waxing i suggest the autoglym sealant. Great stuff.

Have got plenty of choice for the paintwork:

'Megaygars' 3 step
AutGlym Super Resin Polish
AutoGlym ???? - Polish for Dark Metallics
AutoGlym Extra Gloss Protection

And think I may give the AutoGlym Hi Def Wax a spin.

EDIT: Don't know why the photos had given up before.... Anyhow, I decided to head out in the pouring rain tonight to have a crack at polishing the Rocker Cover in situ....

Got this far.... Soaked to the bone now... but progress is progress (bottom versus top):

Good suggestion, but I think I will just keep on the hard way.... I know my luck... Plug cover would come off and snap something just in time for the MOT.
