I know we have loads of threads about wheels, but nowhere is there a table of weights. I'm only interested in street legal (in Switz.) 16"front, 17" rear versions – but if you want add others, feel free to do so. Add the info (size, weight) to the list and post a pic of the wheel if possible. I'll start it off and leave some blanks for others to fill. When all the data is up, someone clever can make us a nice reference table :) N/A stock front 9.8kg, N/A stock rear 11.6kg VXT stock front ?kg, VXT stock rear ?kg VXR Speedlines 5-spoke front ?kg, VXR Speedlines 5-spoke rear ?kg, Steinmetz ST3 5-twin-spoke 7x16" front ca. 8kg, Steinmetz ST3 5-twin-spoke 7.5x17" rear ca.10kg Steinmetz pic

Speedline (Turini)

16" Front - 7kg's
17" Rear - 7.3kg's

Those are the multi-spoke you've got, not the 5-spokes, right? I've added them as such.

N/A stock front 9.8kg,
N/A stock rear 11.6kg

VXT stock front ?kg,
VXT stock rear ?kg

VXR Speedlines 5-spoke front ?kg,
VXR Speedlines 5-spoke rear ?kg

Steinmetz ST3 5-twin-spoke 7x16" front ca. 8kg,
Steinmetz ST3 5-twin-spoke 7.5x17" rear ca.10kg

Speedline (Turini) Multi-spokes ?x16" front - 7kg,
Speedline (Turini) Multi-spokes ?x17" rear - 7.3kg

Anyone know weights for the VXR Speedlines yet?

I'm seriously considering the VXR wheel/tyre package if there is a real weight saving or what Thorney has. Is there a compromise however in terms of durability / fragility and weight or are the two simply not linked?

I understand the 5 spoke Speedlines are only slightly heavier than the multispoke. End of the day multispoke designs will always be lighter due to the design.

Just had another thought: The Steinmetz wheels use 20mm spacers at front, 5mm at rear – all extra unsprung weight :( Is there any info for the GM 5-hole version Speedlines (as opposed to your Lotus hub 4-holers, Thorney) – do they need spacers?

Not sure but I cant imagine Lotus would sanction spacers and as Vauxhall and Lotus spent a long time sorting offsets I would assume none are needed.

I think that the manufacturing quality also is a factor. Since wheels are round a process called "low pressure casting" can be used, the aluminium simply flows from the center into the mould. In "high pressure casting" a strong pressure is used, look at the covers on a motorcycle engine for instance, thin and strong. Some of the high quality wheels are probably better made with stronger material.

(Ricky has made that observation, the standard N / A wheels easily scratch)

Wheels were £675. Lotus hubs save another 1.2kg's per corner.

They fit without modification. The upright is an Elise S2 fitted to the VX220. However you will need new discs as they are a 4 bolt hub. The S2 hubs also have the speed sensor to fit to the abs plug.

IIRC, Thorney said ali hubs £60 (each???).

Definitely the way to go if you can, as unsprung weight is very relevant in such a light car. I wouldn't get it passed in Switz. unfortunately (another reason to consider 111r).

I can get you hubs, I get them direct from Lotus so you need a trade account there (which I now have). I don't make any profit on em (you'll find that with Lotus stuff) but I'm happy to help out so long as I cover the costs and postage. They bolt straight on.

Do they have the correct offsets and no need for spacers?
