Getting a single set of poly mount inserts and wondering which mount to insert them into. Front or rear? Is there an advantage to either or just go for the easiest to get at (rear probably)

Not sure if it would make a to much of a difference. If only one set is fitted i think its in the front though. The front is definatly the easiest to get too. I have them in both

I have them fitted in both, but the rear mount is much stronger than the front so perhaps the uprated inserts should be fitted to that one first

Here is the quote from the Courtenay website who don't seem to specify, so you could just go with the easist to get to:

"One engine mount kit is ideal for road use, replacing both is ideal for those using the car for fast road or track day use, however this will give a little more resonance at lower rpm"

Here is the fitting guide from Marv

I had both fitted by Plans a couple of years ago. There is a lot of resonance at low revs, but after a while they do soften up/settle down.

I wanted to avoid the resonance so only ordered the 1 set. Front mount seems easier with less bolts but can't see any pros or cons for either. Just wondered if anybody had heard anything to consider. Will probably fit in the front mount as it is further under the car and potentially more dangerous should the car drop on me - yeehaa living life on the edge.

I fitted the rear one day and the front the day after with a quick test drive in between. Definitely a difference in feel and resonance between just one and the pair. Think with hindsight I would have stopped at just the rear fitted. HTH

I fitted both at the same time and definatly a little more resonance, mainly felt when setting off. Doesnt make it annoying or a bad feeling though. The throttle response is alot sharper now though

After driving away with them for the first time I hated it, really didn't like the feel of it at all. Can't remember how long they took to settle down, something like 300-500 miles. I don't notice it at all now.

... and while it might all be in my own mind the car did seem to feel solid when accelerating and braking.

Pros - extends life of the other engine mounts, better gear changes, possibly sharper response. Cons - extra vibration at low revs. The effect of fitting the inserts is to add more stiffness to the front and rear mounts. Fitting them helps prevent the engine twisting fore and aft within the engine bay under hard acceleration and on overrrun. With more of these twisting forces being resisted by the front and rear mounts there is likely to be less strain on the left and right upper mounts and these are the ones that have tened to fail quite regularly. With less force initially dissipated through the mounts more of the torque gets delivered sooner through the drive train which makes it feel as if the car is responding more sharply. The gearbox is also moving around less under these forces which helps make gear changes easier and smoother.

Seems to suggest that fitting on both front and rear is recommended or assumed. I'll probably get another set but just do the front mount now and see how it feels.

I only fitted one to the front as the rear mount is very strong, either that or it does fook all. When you first start the car after fitting the egnine feels more part of the car. Its hard to explain without you experiencing it first hand. Its well worth doing thumbsup

I did both straight off. Yeah it makes a bit of difference at really low revs but its not that noticable. The odd buzzing when you set off but thats it. Once rolling theres no difference.

I fitted one at the rear my reasoning being the distance to the rear from the pivot point of the engine was further away and stronger, I was very happy with it for a year or so then fitted the front one. With both the vibration is quite bad especially on clutch control on slight incline stuck in traffic, which is like most days for me :angry2: Having said that I like it, it adds to the raw sports car feel. The most annoying thing for me is the roof bars vibrate to death at a certain rpm but I could fix that with a bit of rubber or foam I am sure.

Just finished fitting tullett exhaust system and added the inserts to the front mount. The engine really does feel more part of the car, it vibrates just enough to feel it but not so much that my teeth fall out. Pleased I did it and will get used to it soon enough.
