Did a track day at Oulton Park on Wednesday - the car was great during the time on track but on getting home I noticed a loud whine/whistle coming from the engine :( The intensity gets worse with revs when stationary. The engine's supercharged and if I flex the supercharger while the engine is running the noise changes. I'm guesing a gasket some where on the inlet side has failed, or the supercharger is on it's way out. Anyone seen this before or any ideas?

Just found this topic http://www.vx220.org...se/page__st__20

The post from VIX sounds just like my problem :( I guess Courtney's screws might not be up to the job.

If it makes this noise at tickover does the noise change when you apply any pressure with your hand to the middle of the supercharger unit eg pushing gently towards the front of the car? When mine started making a new noise it turned out I had 3 broken studs and the SC was trying to break free

They had a batch of bolts from HiTec that failed. Quite possible you were one of the unlucky ones that had them fitted as part of the HiTec supplied kits. Courtenay's started putting their own kits together after that.

Sorry to read this. Mine failed the weekend before I was due to go on a Europe trip. Courtenay's had used the wrong strength bolts (studs?) and fixed it under warranty ok but it was a real p*sser in the circumstances. I was able to drive out to CMS ok (120 miles) but wouldn't have wanted to go much further as it got progressively worse on the journey. Talk to Jon. Hope you get it fixed ok. :(

Really not having much luck with my SC conversion. Do wonder if I'll ever get back to a reliable car. Did you all get new bolts from Courtney or did any of you source yourselves?

Took the car to Courtenay who replaced them with the correct bits under warranty. thumbsup

Are we talking about the bolts holding the charger to the inlet manifold? I can't believe they are under that much strain that they'd shear!

Its only 4 bolts isnt it that holds the charger on? might be less hassle to get the bolts and fit them yourself?

If they've sheared it might be an absolute bitch to get them out, plus if the charger has been bouncing around for a bit probably going to need a new gasket.

Well it's worse than I thought. The chargecooler has come away from the cylinder head because the top three bolts have sheared - two flush with the cylinder head :(

Getting ear ache from the wife saying I've ruined the car and made it unreliable by supercharging it. Feeling really fed up about the whole thing. Oh well at least one bolt came out easily. Anyway I know you like photos so here's some of the offending parts:

Getting ready to have a go drilling them out. If only I had a right angled drill as it's not going to be easy. Perhaps I should be thinking about the duel pass mod seeing as it's all in bits. Anyone know how much Courtney charge?

Ouch thats bad news! Looking at those pictures I don't see a support bracket at the bottom of the block? This is probably the reason its shaken itself loose! There is a support bracket that bolts onto the block (where the brown earth connector is and the hole next to it) that then attaches to bracket on the bottom of the inlet :) Courtenay charge £100 for dual pass, but I got mine done for £25 at a local engineering company. I'd advise taking the end plate to a local firm and show them what you want, I guarantee it will be cheaper!

If your not confident on doing it i know Back On Track got a speciallist in to drill a few sheered studs in one of the lads heads on his tubby. BOT said he did an excellent job. May be worth finding one of those blokes of phoning BOT if your closeish

30-40bhp is a lot of power/load for 4 small bolts

Courtney definitely didn't used to fit the bracket - I remember it being discussed at the time. Looks like I need one, where did you get yours?
