Im going to upgrade the standard gaz nickels i have now but i dont know what i want, i was looking at getting the gaz pro's but for just a little more i can get the street series from nitron. Ive heard great things about the gaz pro's and i know a couple forum members have used them and like them, but ive not really heard much on the nitron side of things.. has anyone tested each setup back to back ? what are your thoughts?

It's a bit early to tell at this stage, the golds are really well made and great value for money, but not seen the Nitrons in the flesh to compare, what materials do the nitrous use, and are they twin tube?

Nope, proper mono-tube design on the Street Series, like the NTR's. I've seen a set, up at Cornering Force, being tweaked and they looked great but that's hardly a technical review. Consensus on SELOC seems to be that they're very good.

I'd wait a little while for real durability results on the 'love you long time' outsourced streets  Not saying gaz's are perfect but atleast you can get issues fixed fast rather than waiting on the next batch.

Not heard any comparisons with the basic Nitrons, the more expensive Nitrons are supposed to eclipse the Gaz Golds, but then they are well over double the price.

I took the owner of an S1 Exige sporting the NTR Nitrons out in my VX on its stock Bilsteins on friday round Abingdon and he asked what suspension I had fitted and commented that from the passenger seat the car felt like it handled very similarly to his.. he was suprised it was bog standard apart from the wheels. Not a great deal wrong with OEM suspension really, a 15mm drop all round would be quite nice but I'm happy to live with it as it is. I certainly don't think suspension is a "must upgrade" for track work. If I was to ever upgrade i'd want the ride on road to be as good or better than stock, i'm not totally convinced that any aftermarket kit offers that as they all seem more track biased. The NTR Nitron S1 did seem to ride in a similar manner to my car on track, less body roll was the most obvious difference I felt so maybe on road as long as set not to low they maybe something to contemplate if mine start to leak or noticeably degrade.

Wise words Steve.

I don't think any of the aftermarket kits will do anything but take road comfort away but will come into their own on track.

My advise is (for what it is worth) If you want to do track days and are serious about them then go for better track suspension. If you can afford the track specific Nitrons you will not buy better but £1,200 is a lot of dosh. Gaz Gold Pro's will be as good for all but the really great drivers and I doubt many would notice the difference between them an top price Nitrons.

If all you want to do is enjoy two or three track days a year but mostly want a nice riding car on the roads, standard Bilsteins are the way,

You can seek out Elise or Exige ones. Slightly harder damped and sprung from memory.

I can still supply Gaz if you like.

Maybe the Gaz Nickel will suit your needs?

Cliffie, what if you are planning mainly road use with a couple of trackdays thrown in? I keep flitting between the Exige Bilstein's, a set of Gaz's and the nitron street series, im not sure now. Aaarrgghh!

Speak to Birty. He had Exige Billies as standard on his VXR and recently upgraded to a set of Golds. He's very happy with the difference!!

tbh I doubt the number of track days dictates what suspension you use, almost like the thing about track pads being sh** when cold (well yes they are shitter than their best performance but still better than oem pads). I could do a track day every day and due to my hamfisted agricultural driving style, not find the need to change the suspension for a loooong time. Since the really important bit is the springs and they can be changed easily. And there are some very high placing cars in the elise trophy running "shitty old gaz" tbh from what I've read about the NSS's, they are meant for street use with some lowering ability, and if you even hint at track use then go for their 'bottom of the range' NTR stuff (they have a line of up 8 or so NTR products now)

I really like my gaz golds  the Bilstein ride I though was worse than it is now and I certainly donot miss the dive and roll on track. I am using 425/550 springs and if you donot like the springing they are really cheap to swap. Steve

I'm in the same boat, had standard Gaz for a few years now and the are a good everyday setup. But I want mine to handle better on track. I might have the power but I need to be able to put it down at the right time and be easy to drive on track. Nitrons great but £££ Gaz gold get a good right up. mmmmmmmmmmm

rite, ive decided to go with gaz gold pro's. i spoke to nitron and the base kit starts at £675 for the NA VX and they come with 350F and 450R spring rates which you can not change so you have to pay for 4 springs @ £32 each plus delivery. So i worked it out to about £820 for the nitron street series kit. (including spring rates i want etc) the gaz gold pro's are £575 and i can choose exactly what i want from the start so i wont be wasting money on different springs i dont need. I know the gaz's are still twin tube design, but my crap driving skills probably wont see the difference between them and the monotubes, once i have done more track days and they street series are out i may have another look. ** - the nitron street series are made in taiwan, but nitron will service them in the UK.
