Has anyone had the Thorney stage 1, which is apparently just a re-map? If so what do you think of it? Thorney is too far too drive too, but they have approved dealers to do the re-map and just wondered if it was worthwhile.

Got a TMS stage 1, but it came on the car so have nothing to compare it to I'm afraid.

You might need to check on that. The Performance Centres or whatever they're called couldn't do anything with VX's initially, IIRC. It was all for the newer generations of Corsa/Astra/Vectra etc. Things may well have changed but I'd call TMS first (and not one of the dealers) to make sure.

I asked a while back and the performance centres cannot do remaps on VX220's.

As soon as i bought my 2.2 NA i realised i couldnt get to 60 in second :(
I immediately got a TMS Stage 1 remap and it does now allow you to reach 60 in second. Moves the limiter from 6300 to 6800 i believe.

The throttle response is slightly better as well. Not a huge difference but solved the issue i wanted it to.
Add an ITG and you start to notice the throttle response becoming tighter...(on mine anyway).

If it's an N/A i wouldn't bother. As said, raises the rev limit, but other than that virtually undetectable. I had the TMS stage 1, then had to replace my ECU reverting to standard map and i noticed next to no difference.

I had the TMS stage 2+ done in 2006 (as an upgrade from an AMD Stage 2 with Viper and Miltek in 2004). It raised the rev limit, smoothed out the flat spot and gave me 158 bhp. I guess it was worth it at the time but the SC is now infinitely better value. chinky chinky

I e mailed John Thorney at the weekend and he said the performance centres are given training by them and the maps are Thorneys. By the way the performance centre is vauxhall dealer in Blaydon. But reviews seem mixed, wish Courtenays was not so far away.

It sounds flipant but he's correct. I have ITG filter, 2.4 manifold, P&P throttle body, Tullet Exhaust Manifold, Pre cat removal pipe, High Flow Cat, Miltek Exhaust. Add the cost of Mapping and the total comes to around GBP3k before fitting. Resulting in 173 bhp Don't get me wrong my machine is rapid to say the least. However if I remember correctly Courtneys basic SC kicks out 40hp more than my machine for similar money.
