Abacus sell a replacement Meta M99T2 alarm for the VX & Elise. Hss anyone bought one of these? - the complete replacement alarm with new remotes, interior sensor and siren rather than the exchange alarm control module. If so, can you confirm it uses the existing loom and plugs? All the wiring is still in place in my car and I'd like to sourece a direct replacement for oem alarm to save faffing around with the wiring and plugs in the car.

I've fitted one of these as my alarm siren was in pieces and the remotes were missing Posted Image

No need to change any wiring, this really is a plug and play fitment (unless you have central locking, in which case you have to plug an extra wire in - full instructions were included, and the guy at Abacus is very knowledgeable). You'll probably find there is no need to replace the interior sensor (the kit comes with ultrasonic sensors - no good for soft tops) as they rarely go wrong.

As a bonus it will not be affected by wireless doorbells! Posted Image

Yes I replaced my main unit and had new fobs from Abacus, and they really know their stuff. Had the replacement in 2 days and just plugged in. Now have 3 remotes which is good. They are a very professional outfit. thumbsup

There is a microwave sensor (detects movement) behind the rear bulkhead panel. Sits roughly between the shoulders of driver and passenger. It is adjustable and should activate as soon as you put your arm within the cabin area, with the roof on or off. You need to remove the speaker panel to get access though if you find you need to adjust it. Most should have been set reasonably well at the factory.

Some too well!

It is good that the minute I put anything on the soft-top it sets the alarm off. But is definitely effected by the doorbell of the house opposite. Only have one fob myself, so will be replacing it in a couple of months time.

Think I'll get a question in here as well then. With the replacement unit how difficult is it to add central locking to an NA, maybe just on one side. Or, is this possible to do with the standard alarm.

Might as well keep all the alarm questions going in this topic  I've checked the wiring looms in my car and the front plug is exactly where it should be, but I can't find the rear wiring and plug anywhere within the engine bay. I must have cable tied it out of the way somewhere when cutting out the boot panel and relocating the ECU and main loom. Would someone with a turbo mind be able to confirm which way the rear switch wires route to the switch and what colour the cables are. The front connector on mine has one black wire and one red/pink striped wire. Is the rear the same? Thanks thumbsup and hopefully my last question about alarms!

My recently acquired VXT has developed some anti-social behaviour over the last few days - the alarm going off at random every few minutes. Until I get to find out the cause I thought I just remove the alarm siren fuse and sort it out when I got back from a weekend away. So fuse 2 removed I disappeared...only to get a phone call from a displeased neighbour saying it was playing up again..."can't do says I, I've taken the siren fuse out". Could barely hear him above the siren, so got him to take out fuse 11 (alarm and interior light). As the interior light went out assumed that was it...until the phone rang 10 mins later...with the alarm going off again. Save to say his wife had lost it by then :glare: Settled on manually locking it so as not to arm the alarm...no forses head on the front step on arriving home so hopefully neighbourhood peace has been resumed. Anyone have any advice on the right fuse to take out until I get to see the people at Abacus?

Don't think it makes any difference what fuse you pull as the siren has a built-in backup battery for when some tea leaf decides to disconnect the main battery.

I figured that the emergency battery was on the alarm only...hence the original theory of knock out the siren...but that wouldn't make sense really would it...so, thanks techieboy for pointing out the hole in my plan! Is a replacement unit the only way to sort the remote control/door alarm problem?

Out of interest what is the easiest way to access/remove the siren unit behind the front bumper/panel. It looks to be a complete arse by removing the headlight and arch liner? Cheers

Don't think you'll need to remove the wheelarch liner or headlight as it is in such an awkward place to stop it from being removed - it is something you really want to do when the front clam is off

Thanks for that. I had a feeling it would be a clam off job!
