Hi all, Over the past month or so my accelerator pedal has stopped responding twice. The first time was on start up and after the connection at the pedal was disconnected and reconnected it was fine. This morning it went again in slow moving traffic and a simple switch off and restart solved the problem. Obviously, I'm concerned if I were to lose the accelerator while driving at speed. What could be causing this? The connection at the pedal seems fine Ta Michael

Ah, the loom of doom  1st step = Contactspray on connector at throttle padle, same at connectors under cooling header tank (the blue connector), and the same at the connector at the throttle body. If still fails after that, the connector under the collingheader tanks may need some pins rebuild.

Cheers for the advice. Not come across contact spray before, is it a specific product or would something like WD40 do the job? (also, is this a known problem?)

Cheers, final question. When you say the connector under the cooling header tank, is that the expansion tank looking thing at the passenger side of the engine bay? If so, is the connection easy to get to or does the tank have to be removed etc etc (want to fix it today but it's pi$$ing down outside and I don't want to start a long job) Ta again

If it's the connector I'm thinking of, it's sooooo much easier to take the wheel off and arch liner out. thumbsup If you do go down that route can I be cheeky and ask a favour? I'm after a couple of pictures of the wires going on and out of that connector?

This is a reasonably common problem. I'd recomend checking all the wiring plugs first. Given you've done the pedal try the throttle body and the two behind the header tank too. Its also worth checking the terminals are tight in the ones behind the header tank. Any movement in the wiring opens up the terminals. Open the plug, pull off the yellow grill and look in. You'll see the clamp part of the terminal and you should be able to tell if one is opened slightly. If it is close it back up with a pin. Reassemble but then immobilise the wiring with cable ties so it doesn't happen again. Yeah, this takes a while so best not try it today but do it soon as you'll suddenly end up with nothing at all.

The electrical connections on the ecu getting wet can cause this too!

:yeahthat: My throttle died after a rainy day. Still need to make a sort of rain deflector shield like the tubby has for my throttle section.

Yep this is what was causing my throttle problems - was getting various error codes until Vocky pulled the loom apart for the ITB conversion. The 'waterproof' plug had got a load of water in and quite a few of the pins had completely corroded away.

I can understand where you're coming from when you say you don't want to drive it - I had complete loss of throttle which nearly resulted in an Audi wedging itself in the rear clam, and another instance when I lost power in the outside lane of the M4.

Bl00dy hell, lots of things to check and I ain't even got a jack to get the wheel off! Trip to Halfords I think. By the way, where is the ecu again? Might as well check everything.

Depends on which variant you have and just how modified it might be?

It's a fairly standard n/a. If anyone has any photos of the locations of the connectors that need looking at, including the ecu, I would be very grateful Ta Michael

I'd be very surprised if this is not covered in the TIS which is linked in the noobs section.

Well here's some pics.

The 2 connectors behind the header tank, I would look at these first as the ECU connectors are a complete pig to get off.
