how about this:
opie oils oil finder

It works out being pretty much £90 for 6ltrs of 0w-40w castrol edge sport, an oil filter and 2ltrs of Motul Motylgear 75w-80 gearbox. I reckon thats not a bad deal...

I need to do both anyway so opinions please :P

For std / stg1 vxt's oe semi synth oil from GM is fine and mega cheap For modded cars the usual good brands of 5w-40 fuly synth is good For very high modded cars over 300bhp that get used in anger a lot I found the 10w-50 stuff was also very good Biggest thing is regular oil changes that will keep your car happy :) DG

To be honest you could prob get away with most of the grades of oil and as shown some get away with more mineral based oils even tracking (but do change regular) Cant remember exact figures now but the 1st grade of eg 5W referes to is viscosity measured at something real cold like -25deg and the later number refers to its viscosity of the oil at 100 deg Basically the 1st number refers to cold start and the lower the number the thinner the oil and other one is how thick it is when hot. A lower reading could get through the turbo seals when really hot and this is why a lot of the more powerfull cars run the 40 rating and also to give extra protection when hot. You can argue the thicker oil gives the engine a harder time to push around due to extra thickness but never really done any testing tbh Our engines have quite good tolerances and can cope with a range of conditions so exact oil rating are not really needed and best to go with what suite your use of budget and concentrate on service intervals based on this use i.e not GM guidlines if you track all the time DG
