I fitted new discs and mintex 1144 pads to a mates vx220 turbo, due to his job he doesnt use the car daily but has done a few miles since i fitted them. Both the rear discs have a ring of rust, where only half the width of the pad is cleaning the discs up after being parked up, im sure this is also why its squealing just before it comes to a compleate stop. Its almost like the pads are not sat square with the discs, anyone had this issue? The fronts are fine!

The rear pads do not cover the whole braking surface of the disc , only the clean bit you can see ;) As for the squeek take it for a good blast first chinky chinky

i did a bit of driving gently pulling on the handbreak in an attempt to bed them in, improved them slightly, in that they cleaned up a bit but still squealing. told him to give it a blast getting on the brakes more. it just doesnt seem to help all that much, im a mechanic and fitted lots of pads/discs and never had this much trouble bedding them in.

Ithe area that the pad should contact im looking at. The pads are ggoing to end up wedge shaped at this rate.

Mine have squealed for 2 years, they do it just before the car comes to a complete stop. I think taking the pads out and lightly sanding the leading edge should stop it but I can't be arsed.

Ill try taking the leading edge off a bit and recheck the pin, the pin was a little rusty but i brushed it up with wire brush.

Mine squeeled like that a lot at first, 500 miles later they seem OK now. Drive it.

I had exactly the same when I replaced mine with 1144's - it seems as though the vast majority of people have this problem. As most on here say - give them a real good kicking and the noise will go. It took mine about 500 - 1000 miles before they calmed down fully.

4000 miles and mine started to settle in a bit better (just less tha 3months), but I do occasionally get the whale groans just before stopping when braking lightly.

I had Squeeling too , seemed to improve after driving in the pouring rain and getting wet a few times, Better the brakes squeeling than you coming onto roundabouts ,which was the case with standard pads

Mine did this and stayed like it for a few months, when I was on track doing hard braking it sorted them out.

1500 miles and 1 track day later and mine are still doing it, very embarrassing when pulling up at traffic lights

That is how mine have become (The Stotts). Is a touch embarrassing, but fcuk it is so much nicer than the eek eek eek eek that is was getting (as though the pads were brushing the disk on a high spot).
