Posted this on the Group Buy GT4 wing thread, but suspect it would be better here.

I've taken delivery of the GT4 spoiler from Paul McStein at Christopher Neil Lotus and am now looking to get it painted. Lightning Yellow for the supports and Matt Black for the wing. My small local paint and repair shop is reluctant to spray the Lightning Yellow as he says he cannot find it on his colour match system and is doubtful he can get a good match with trial and error. He said that if I can find the correct make-up formula then he will give it a go.

Knowing my colour code, 4LU, I've searched and found the following info on a DuPont site. Can any of you Paint Colour experts verify that this is the info my man needs? ...

DuPont 4LU Makeup Formula

Do you think he can get a reasonable match with this info or is it a waste of time?

My fall-back position is to spray the whole lot, wing & supports, Matt Black and to put some sort of Yellow stripe around the middle of the uprights keeping a sufficient Black gap between it and the real Lightning Yellow of the clam. Although I might just leave it all black.

Views and opinions welcome.

No Lotus place in Ireland. Yea, might have to take it to a bigger shop, just this guy is very convenient and has done good work before on daughters car. He is small but has good reputation and is obviously honest.

If the guy has a Du Pont mixing scheme then yes that is all he would need to mix it as long as he has all of those components. The other option is to buy the paint elsewhere and get him to paint it.

Should be able to paint it with that info. Any paint shop should be able to mix it for you from just the code really. Give me a shout if you have any problems.

Everyones copying me with the black blade  Any decent body shop will match the colour of your car, I'd try somewhere else. Also, I wouldn't have the blade done in matt black, I'd go for satin black - matt black just doesn't look quite right IMO and will show finger marks. Alternatively, carbon wrap the blade which is what I'll be doing next.

imho, I when I first saw cliffies with the uprights painted in matching body colour, I thought they looked a bit fussy. This is why I have mine painted in a satin black to make them less obvious, plus the shiny CF chord.

Thanks for all the advise. That DuPont info was enough for my man to find a match on his system. So uprights in Lightning Yellow and Blade in Satin Black it is. Hopefully painted tomorrow and fitted at weekend. Thanks again for all feedback.

Cliffie's... fussy...

The only change I would make is to Carbon wrap the blade like you have done Sizten. I think the coded uprights make it look more like part of the car rather than a bolt on.

That reminds me Steve.

After the last Silverstone day I was in the BP down the road topping up and a kid in a Mini Cooper comes over to me and says "Your car is awesome dude, you went past me a few times and boy are you quick". I thanked him and said it is all in the car. He then says "Yaeh and the flames you were spitting out were awesome too". That is when I realised he thought I was you.

I just smiled and went to pay for my fuel.

Successfully fitted the GT4 wing today. Really did have to fit it right back against the rear light clusters to ensure it cleared an opening engine cover.

Here are a few photos of the result. Not the best as it was getting dark and the flash is not great at showing up a black wing!

Lol, I noticed that Jimmy had flames too , just glad he has doesn't still have the red one, keep it exclusive. Anyway good excuse to post this , the wing is a joke but the arch vents are cool.

Sorry to have to say this because I realise it's an 'each to their own' kinda thing and its your pride and joy but....that looks..... Loose the shopping list down the sill too! Sorry!
