hi guys
what have you been charged by a body shop to prep and paint a front clam from mvs racing?
i fancy this off ebay
http://cgi.ebay.co.u...=item4aa562f6f4
but my body shop is asking for a bit more money after quoting for 40 hours on my last clam and spending 60 hours on it. i did get my last one in sections though so some time was gluing together.
40 hours just to prep and paint a front clam with no damage!!!???

the clam is not genuine mind!
the sections had to be glued together lights fitted, removed and built up to make perfect, arches needed building up too, there is not a flaw on it now.

because some bodyshops still wont be happy with them, so why bother. Plus the cost would be a lot higher.

Im wary of going somewhere else as the garage i normally use always gives excellent results, below is my car painted and at home, couldnt get any better shots today as its been raining.

Just Need the V grill to finish.

It was 60 hrs time they finished and About £900 to go from thisthat an outrageous amount of time sent on putting it together and then painting it, (WHAT WAS THE COST FOR THAT) 40 hour, could you walk OK after that and do you need to use a tampon now, fcuk me that's a lot of time

to the picture above. A lot of time was spent in the glueing together and aligning the bonnet.
I sent MVS an e-mail to see if he can arrange to get the clam up to paint stage by someone close to them, waiting for a reply.

it would probably be cheaper to buy a brand new vauxhall clam, which should also be ready for paint
Arnt they over £2000 though?

possibly

to be honest it looks like they have done a great job on your clam, so don't worry how much it cost![]()
my mate owns the bodyshop so really £200 is mates rates
Im not worried about it on mine as i intend to keep it for some time but after enjoying repairing mine i do fancy the 2005 one on eBay.
I could do with a body shop!

ideal for that mate, its what i would like to be paying really if the clam was complete, i bought a clam in sections so it could be posted, mvs charged me £65 for 4 tubes of not so special glue for the clam so in the end it cost me a bit more.I'd say the glueing together is a fair chunk of work. For just painting an unprepped clam look at 500 quid inc paint and materials. That'd be with reasonable paint. If you want the mutts nutts then I'd recomend insisting on Koba primer and Deltron paint. Expensive but they cover soooo well. I'd guess 2L of primer, 1L of colour and 2L of lacquer would bury it. If its just paint I'd also guess at 3 days inc the bake but they may say 1 week if they are anything like me! I always like to leave fresh paint undisturbed for a bit to fully harden.
gonna chat with my bodyshop again tomorrow
