Just had a look on the Croft circuit site and see that the noise level for track days is 88db at 3/4 throttle, static. Now I have not had a track day yet but that seems very low. So wondered if any vx lads had been there and did your car pass the noise levels? Mine has a Larini back box and doubt if mine would pass.

Blame the spacktard local resident (ex-wife of the owner or something like that) who tried to get the whole place closed down and forced the local council to enforce a stupidly low noise limit. I probably wouldn't even be allowed in the car park as I measure in at 99-101dB when I get noise tested. A Larini'd NA might be pushing it.

not much chance with a larini i'm afraid :-( anything other than a completely standard road car, with cat, exhaust in good condition - will fail. that said, Croft do have a very limited number of noisy days per year (105dB), which we are lucky enough to have one of. it's on BH Monday 29th August 2011. I was down at croft for a weekend in 2009, i was running a bike can on the back and it was measuring 90db, kept getting black flagged as they stand at end of pit straight to record when you are at full bore which isnt very fair, I ended up buying steel wool and restuffing after every sesh, nitemare. The old footdraggers of Croft village are strict and you're are not allowd on track till 10 to let the church get in. I bet they've never measured db on their bloody bells. Track is worth it though if you eventually do get on.

Could have been due to the previous owner of my car tracking with a vse+sc - it is a wonder he could still hear

I think they do a few 95 db days but you still might be borderline with a non standard backbox. Such a shame as Croft is a really enjoyable circuit. Last time I was there a guy in a stock 911 got turned away. My standard VX only pulled 80db. I've never seen any other circuit so heavy on noise control. I think all the noise complainants there should be round up and shot personally!

Thats a shame, especially as its so local. Would have to put a standard exhaust on to pass the noise level I suppose. Seems very low 88dbs. Not many cars would pass I would imagine. Do you reckon the Larini adds any more power or is it just a great noise?

Croft tend to have three levels of day; 88db - Mainly run by Javelin 98db - I did a LOT one this year 105 - Rare but as mentioned BAT have one scheduled for August My Milltek tests at between 92 - 94db static and has always been fine there. Unfortunately noise is only going to become more of a problem as things move on. Cadwell, Snetterton, Bedford and Elvington are just a few that are subject to mandatory testing and will not let you on if you fail. IMO the Larini is a bit ASBO and it doesn't suprise me it can't pass a noise test TBH. If you want to track you need to swap it for something more sensible.

As I have a standard exhaust in the shed, might put it on and see what its like. Would there be any noticeable difference between a standard and milltek exhaust powerwise or is it negligible? May be selling the Larini I think.

Wouldnt be noticeable. I'd stick a std backbox on and and an air filter. Plenty of noise but not enough to trouble DB meters.

Sounds good, thanks for the advice.
