Are the NA side vents aluminium? Mine need repainting but due to the state of them will have to be rubbed down to bare metal. Do I need an etch primer for this or will any old primer do?

I painted mine with high temperature (black) engine paint. It did the job just fine. thumbsup

Did you just whack the engine paint/hammerite straight onto the bare metal? Was it spray on or brush on?

Most paints are sufficiently self etching to stick to the aluminium mesh just fine. If you want to go belt and braces get a rattle can of the upol etch. Its fairly good.

I've done two separate cars with Satin black spray straight on after rubbing the corroded bit off with sandpaper and its been fine since.

I painted my side vents, and front grille, with engine paint, straight on, using a very small brush (like a make-up brush).

It took ages to do the front grille (with such a small brush) but the result was worth it. thumbsup

Here is a pic of my front grille.

Same for me - light rub with wet n dry, mask up with newspaper then straight on with Hammerite Satin - lovely.
Lots of light coats is the secret to non-drippiness..

I've replaced the extruded ali mesh with stainless steel mesh. Looks nicer in my opinion and should let a bit more air into the engine bay.

Or is it that you Tubby drivers are just large with big ears?
