Fed up with my rattling passenger window, I took the door trim off to have a look. At first there didn't seem much to be done. When the window is fully up, it was very easy to grip the top of the window and move it from side to side. There's a guide at the back of the door and it wasn't doing much of a job. However I took a length of expanded foam from some packaging that was lying around and pressed it between the base of the window and the aluminium of the door. This stopped a fair amount of the movement and a second piece of foam near the back of the window was even better. I then bravely bonded the foam to the window. The window winds up and down without noticeable resistance even though the foam is sliding against the aluminium. Put it all back together and went for a test drive over some particularly annoying rumble strips. result : no more window rattle.

Sounds like a good fix....passenger side on mine moves by about half an inch when wound up and generally sounds rattles/sounds like it's loose. I havent had the door panels off mine yet (skinny garage so not much room). Is it much hassle to get access to the runners inside the door?

Maybe this is stating the bleeding obvious, but have you considered driving the car out of the garage before starting the job ? :groupjump: LOL

Excellent. My door cards have been off for the last week or so, so that I could fix both of my rattly windows which I am going to attempt tomorrow if the weathers decent. I'll certainly try this as on initial feeling about I couldnt see how I would be able to fix it without getting new guides. thumbsup

New guides probably wouldn't solve the problem. There are nylon spacers glued to the glass, and these wear down. I followed the Suggestion of someone on here and covered the guides with stonechip foil or similar tough tape. After 3 years, it's still the best repair I've done. That rattle was unbelievably annoying.

It's been in the garage for the last week or so while I fitted some heated seats & HID's, but with this crappy rain/frost it's just easier to take my pug at 06:30 in the morning and getting it out means moving my other cars around...I don't like working in the rain

Nevermind, will be taking it out for a spin towards the end of the week

I just use ear plugs, no more rattling windows, or, if im feeling brave I wind both windows down all the way, this also stops the rattle, in fact, 99% of the time, the air outside is warmer then the air inside the VX :(
