Im just wondering if anyone can tell me there experiences of replacing the standard turbo to a VXR turbo. are VXR turbo's much better than standard vx220 turbo? much extra bhp? eliminate flat spots? my friend has an almost new VXR turbo which he has offered to sell me at a very good price. any info on this will be a great help.

A good question. I swapped mine and had been considering an LEH engine until it dawned upon me neither offer more power per se. The VXR turbo has a different casting so is more resistant to cracking. Other than that, subjectively, I feel mine spools up more quickly than the (80K mile) standard unit it replaced and continues to blow for longer in the upper reaches of the rev range. Not worth the price for those minor improvements. Only worthwhile if you need a new turbo. Fitted it myself, straightforward if you have a decent tool kit.

i'v been offered a few things like VXR injectors, air flow meter and turbo. just dont know weather its worth replacing any of these parts if there not gona be much of a change. If I bought them I would be taking it to courtney after there fitted for a remap.

Injectors are only required at higher states of tune when the standard are running at capacity. Zero benefit to you. AFM is the same? Just have your car mapped as it is.

There's only a slight difference; just an 'S' I'll get me coat......... But Seriously, from memory it was: different wheels, seats, 20bhp more, black dress bits - can't remember if it was a tad lower and came with semi slicks as OEM? there were a few other differences too, been covered to death

So all differences pretty much cosmetic and not noticable in terms or driving experience on the road. So other than the exclusivity are they really worth the extra money? / is this a popcorn comment? Don't kno VXs well enough yet...

VX Variations

...from Vauxhall

VX
The original, normally aspirated VX.

Lightning
Also referred to as the LE. It only came in yellow, had a colour coded hardtop, black anthracite wheels, black windscreen surround, black leather seats as standard and a scrummy little numbered plaque on the dashboard.

VXT
The VX Turbo. Aside from a 2.0 litre turbo charged engine the Turbo got different wheels in the same sizes as the 2.2 VX and more options and colour choices.Options included central locking, cross drilled brake discs, a touring pack (some extra carpet) and a double step foot rest. There were a lot more turbo only colours available including switch, petrol and moonland.

Scorpion
A VXT that only came in silver with black wheels and a black windscreen surround. Since the Scorpions are a rock band, it also comes with a guitar.

VXR
A VXT with fancy suspension, wheels, tyres, turbo, seats and black bits. Only 65 were made and almost all of them were in the standard Calypso Red. There are a few special customer orders though that came in different colours. There are 1 Coral Blue, 1 Black Sapphire, 1 Moonland and 1 Brilliant Yellow.

Options included Ohlins suspension, a VXR sports exhaust and a sticker kit similar to the 2005 BTCC Vauxhalls.

Whilst the VXR220 had a different 'hybrid' turbo to the standard car, I'm assuming that the OP is actually referring to a VXR Astra turbo, which is more common, cheaper & better (I believe), hence the offer of injectors & AFM. Perhaps he could confirm, before this thread becomes confused. ChrisS1: Of course it's worth the extra :P

You will also still have the flat spot unless you get the car remapped or fit a full exhaust system. if it is a good price I would get it anyway as the let turbo is prone to cracking manifolds on the VX. chinky chinky Steve

from taking both turbos to the limit, there is no real downside to the Astra VXR turbo compared to the original Z20let , just more potential flow for less charge temperature. but if a z20let turbo was healthy then leave it in, its good for 330 ft.lb of torque , with enough cooling and fueling not sure I would pay £500 parts + labour just to run anything less than stage 3
