Mechanically very nearly done with the rear end.

Bit of a catch up...

Front end cleaned up and built back up.

Even took some steel wool to the underside.

The brother is pretty handy with bodywork repairs so he set about repairing the sill where it was jacked in the wrong place and an assortment of over little dinks.

Why?

All you did was strip/damage the protective anodised layer on the aluminium, making it more prone to corrosion now

Bye, Arno.

Going by the states of the under trays this has long expired/blasted off by dirt anyway. It will become a dry weather only car after this and will have regular coatings of waxoyl in the future.

ACF50 is what you want I believe, rather than waxoyl

Got the full exhaust system on so thought I'd give it a go at starting up...

Fired into life straight away and after a bit of a cough seems to be running beautifully. The end is in sight :)

Hopefully it will be on the road within the next week or so an it has me wondering... with it being such a high miler, I'll likely attract a pathetic offer if something bad happens, am I likely to get approved for an agreed value policy?

Yes the car is 130,000 miles and I'd have probably expected no more than £7k as it was showing it's age cosmetically before this rebuild but could I target £9k with it in a refreshed state?
New Tullet Manifold
New Tullet Cat section

New suspension bushes, ball joints.

Refurbed wishbones
Refurbed hubs
New bearings
New up-rated Toe links
Subframe stripped and painted and put back together with new shims and duralac
New side Engine Mounts
New front and back engine mount inserts

New handbrake cable
New Ally Rad

Repairs to any damage on sills

Then there's the Quantum Shocks and blue interior which were in before but hopefully bring the starting value up a bit?

I'd sooner have a high mile but loved car, than a low mile lemon which hasnt been touched.

Agreed to a point, but 130,000 is probably someway beyond that point.  :D

It's nothing in the grand scheme of things.

130k on a Vectra engine lugging around half the weight it was designed to do.

Only just run in.

My brother had it in his work to paint his sill repairs and he got carried away on his lunch break and after and decided to attempt to tackle some of the stone chip acne on the front. Picking it up tonight.

Wouldn't it have been easier to take the headlights out?

Ha never noticed that. Would have been. Last minute decision to go over the front while it was in the booth.

nice job there. Coming along nicely. I'm in similar position although mine is taking years rather than months. Currently sit on 94k and slowly doing each job. Suspension refurb is next on the list, plus engine mounts then get years of dirt off all the places that you cant reach!
